2019 Free Agent – Txbaseball3@yahoo.com

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
I’m a utility guy. Good glove for the infield and quick in the outfield. Best position would be shortstop in the infield and center field or left field in the outfield

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Last year being on conference I got to see all the big named guys play. I liked to watch players similar to my play style and learn what they do to be successful in the game.

Why do you like the game of softball?
I love the game of softball because it’s a competitive sport that allows you to bring your own talent and character into the game. You get to build relations with people and get to experience a lot of different places and get to make a lot of memories along the way.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
I would say Roderick Armour is on the top of my radar. After playing with him and watching him play he is a completely player. He can lock it down on the mound and get a hitter uncomfortable in the box. Plus he can hit from both sides of the plate and has a ton of speed.

What is your height and weight?
5’7 155

Where do you call home?
Lubbock, Texas

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Relaxing at home with my family.

What do you do for a living?
Fedex driver

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Baseball and football in high school. College baseball at Sul Ross State Univeristy.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
My brother/best friend Ryan got me into the sport. We just kept playing all over Texas and started a fun little YouTube channel we have that helped us get seen. Luckily I was blessed with the opportunity to play conference last year.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
I wasn’t surprised by anything, just needed to adjust to the play style. I knew coming in the athletes are going to be better and it was going to be tougher, but I just relaxed myself and played my game.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
Steve Whaley. He is a really good defensive player and a base hit type guy which is what I try to bring to the table for the teams I play for.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
The Texas Legends tournament in Euless was my best tournament last year. I was able to get an opportunity to play on Saturday and made the most out of it with some really good defensive plays and did a good job at the plate. We were able to beat 2 A teams that day.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
I’ve had multiple people give me advice that I was able to take and apply it to the field. My brother Ryan Garibay has pushed me the most and given me advice along with guys like Corie Waldrep, Matty Vasquez, and Jeremy Green to name a few, but there has been plenty of guys who have given me advice along the way.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Just keep striving and play your game. Don’t worry about what people say what you should do or need to do. All you need is the right set of eyes to see you and that’s all that matters.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Just an ordinary baseball grip, no over lap and either 26 or 27.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Lift and condition along with practicing some. I’ll play some pick up tournaments just for fun to try and stay in the swing of things.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Red Sox and I’m a huge college football fan. Hookem

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
Ruff Ryder Anthem-DMX

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Howwwl in Clovis,NM. Great one day tournament where Lyf Nimmo puts together a conference squad that the teams that enter the tournament try to beat. My first year of softball I got to play against them with my D team Throwbacks and we took one game from them in the championship but then they got us in the If game.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Nothing beats any BLD. Turf infields are always nice and the environment at those parks always seems to be more electric than other complexes.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Applebee’s 2 for 20
