2022 USSSA Challenge Cup
"The Olympics of Softball"
January 21-30
Viera, Florida
Texas catcher Filip Washington hits against Florida's Dan Sanchez in the Championship of the Major Challenge Cup!
The 2022 USSSA Challenge Cup is in the books. 316 teams played across 25 divisions of slowpitch softball at the 9 field all turf Spacecoast Stadium Complex in Viera, Florida in a State vs State format dubbed "The Olympics of Softball". In its inaugural season (2019) Challenge Cup had 24 teams, in 2020 they had 74 teams, and in 2021 they drew 164 teams. The growth and creation of this event is the brainchild of tournament director Strojan Kennison. The Challenge Cup tournaments began on Friday, January 21st with the USSSA Black American divisions, then the Senior divisions, the Mixed, then the Major, B, C, D, and E teams finished off 10 days of softball!
In the 21 team men's Major Florida won their 2nd ever Challenge Cup with a one run victory over Texas in the "if" necessary game of the championship! Georgia was 3rd and MD/VA was 4th.
Meanwhile Florida dominated the Women's Major run ruling most of their opponents.
Look for a full report on the Men's Major division with highlight video clips, condensed games, and more coming this week.
