USA Softball relocates 2020 Slow Pitch Showdown to Space Coast Stadium

“After much consideration following the cancelation of Border Battle XII, USA Softball feels it is important that the athletes selected to the 2020 USA Softball Slow Pitch National Teams have the opportunity to represent Team USA in the Slow Pitch Showdown,” said USA Softball Chief Executive Officer, Craig Cress. “We’re grateful for the support of many that help in providing opportunities for our Slow Pitch National Team athletes to compete year after year.”

Four teams are set to compete in the Women’s event, beginning on Sunday, October 4 at 4 p.m. ET and concluding on Monday, October 5 at 12 p.m. ET with the annual Women’s Slow Pitch Showdown featuring a Team USA matchup between the Women’s Slow Pitch National Team (WSPNT) and Women’s Futures National Team (Women’s Futures). Teams competing in the Women’s division include WSPNT, Women’s Futures, On Point, and Dirty Sports/Trojans.

In the Men’s division, the Men’s Slow Pitch National Team (MSPNT), Men’s Futures Slow Pitch National Team (Men’s Futures), Drip City, and JUNO Athletics will begin competition on Sunday, October 11 at 4 p.m. ET with the MSPNT and Men’s Future’s capping the weekend with the annual Men’s SP Showdown matchup on Monday, Oct. 12 at 12 p.m. ET.

USA Softball announced the 2020 Slow Pitch National Team rosters earlier this year. The MSPNT roster includes athletes from 11 different states with 14 veterans returning to the roster while the Men’s Futures Team is a mixture of veterans and rookies from 11 different states. The 14-athlete WSPNT roster includes athletes from 10 different states while the 15-athlete Women’s Futures roster includes athletes from 13 different states. Athletes on all four rosters have earned numerous USA Softball National Championships and individual tournament accolades.

The USA Softball Slow Pitch Showdown dates back to 2012 with the most recent edition being held in Midland, Michigan last year where the Men’s and Women’s National Teams each finished victorious. The 2019 competition settled with the MSPNT dominating in a 41-23 victory over the Men’s Futures while the WSPNT edged past the Women’s Futures with a narrow 7-6 win.
