What positions do you play and what is your best position?
I play 3rd and Outfield. Best position would be left or center
Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
You see so many good ones at this level, it's hard to choose just one. Wegman and Connell are some great hitters, Andy is unbeatable on the mound and Bakers good at all aspects of the game.
Why do you like the game of softball?
The competitiveness, the skill and physical abilities required to play the game at this level, and overall joy of the game
What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
T-Ray is what I've noticed being called most often
What is your height and weight?
6'3" 217 currently. Up about 15lbs from last season.
Where do you call home?
Cadiz, Ky
What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
off weekends? Those exist? Usually if we're off I'm sucked into coed with the wifey and some local friends or some backwoods men's turneys.
What do you do for a living?
i'm a sub contractor dealing with forclosed homes mainly.
Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
played basketball and baseball in high school. Didn't get the privilege to go to college and play as i had to work at a young age.
How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I started playing travel ball at 16. Played against and with several guys from the Reds Astros organization and got the call to play last summer.
What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
The atmosphere and caliber of play from one through ten in the lineup
Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
Its hard to be the newcomer and compare to anyone but I've been called "Little Wally" (Maybrier) and "Young Baxter" since I began playing
What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
Robbing a HR in center at the Major this year
In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
Jason Baxter. He's taught me a lot about the game over the years
What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Play for the team and not for yourself! Take advice from the guys that have been there and know the game. Give 100% on every play and in every game and you will get noticed, whether it be for talent or hustle
What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
I drop my pinky off the handle and do a modified power grip. I use 26el or 27bal
What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Hit the weight room hard, a lot of cage time and try to keep my arm in shape.
What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Kentucky Basketball
Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I always try to stretch my back before a plate appearance
What would be your "at bat" music selection?
ACDC Back in Black
What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
Get more people in the stands
What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Cincinnati or Detroit because of the atmosphere at the ball fields
What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Always great playing in the stadium at Disney but the Summit in Chattanooga TN will be a big hit on the conference this year.
Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Dave and Busters
What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
Collins legging out a triple but got sniped at short at the Major
Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
I'm an extremely family oriented guy. I didn't have that growing up and want better things for my daughter and family
What was your favorite sports related gift you have ever given or received?
Would have to be a few bats that my buddy Baxter gave to me and my fiancé last summer. Means a lot to have such a well respected player like Bax take you under their wing and help you strive for the next level
