The 53rd Annual Smoky Mountain Classic returned to Maryville, Tennessee's Sandy Springs Park.  The unlimited home run tournament with its 80 foot bases, Dudley Pro-M ball, and 240 bat compression testing put on a good show.  There was a big crowd slowly building up Saturday night when a big thunderstorm came and sent everyone home.  2.5 hours later they resumed the tournament in front of a very small crowd and tournament directors decided to play it through the night and finish the tournament due to incoming forecasted rain storms.  There were 34 teams over all and 27 of them were from the Nationwide Conference USSSA including all 4 of the Major teams and all 6 'AA' teams.  Smash It Sports/Newbreed shut down SNI/Thunder 22-15 in the winner's bracket finals late Saturday night.  Then from about midnight through 11 AM Resmondo who had lost to SNI/Thunder 25-21 in the semifinals made an epic run through the loser's bracket which was cut to 5 inning games to save time.  Resmondo beat S&E 22-4, Albicocco 28-8, SNI 33-6, and then scored big late in the 1st championship game to beat Smash It Sports 40-25 to force the "if" game.  In the final game Smash It Sports out scored Resmondo 14-7 down the stretch and held Resmondo 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th to win this prestigious tournament 31-29.
