Free Agent infielder Robin Roberts

Robin Roberts

USSSA Playing History

GoSoftball.com Player Page

Who are you playing with in 2012?
Free agent.   I just bought another practice which kept me away last year, but I'm hoping to join with someone towards the end of the year.

Why do you like the game of softball?
The camaraderie and friendships made along the way, and it allows all of us to stay competitive at the highest level

What is your nickname in softball?
Doc

Where do you call home?
 Riverview, MI.

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Hanging out with family and friends poolside or out at the lake.

What do you do for a living?

I'm a chiropractor just outside of the Detroit area.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
I played hockey and baseball through high school before going onto the University of Detroit to play baseball.  After that I played three years of independent minor league ball in the Frontier & Northeast League.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I moved back home in 2003 and played league ball with a few friends that played with ICC.  I picked up with them the following year, and then Butch's the first year of the Conference.  Zim (Hall of Famer, and that guy sure can sing the National Anthem -Filby that was for you)  was our coach/manager that year and in the offseason put me in contact with Jose from GTL.  I went to play in the Toys for Tots with them, and they asked me to become part of the Cartel at the end of the tourny.

What position do you play?

Anywhere in the infield.

What batting grip do you use?
I've been working on the Billy Barret overlap

What ounce bat do you use?
28.5 endload

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
We have an indoor facility a few us in area hit at once or twice a week starting in Feb..

What is your favorite sports team?
Detroit Tigers

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
Golf, and by not playing softball last year it allowed me to play quite a bit of it.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
Winning the A World with GTL.  Also high on the list in 2008 was winning eight straight at the Dudley after losing our first game.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?

Jay-Z, I got 99 problems but a bitch aint one

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
I might be a little biased but the Last Chance is my favorite.  It always has the top teams and everyone usually hangs out at the bar.  I've seen a lot of envelopes disappear in there.

What is the best softball field you have played at and why?
Any of the Big League Dreams parks because of their turf infields – no bad hops there!!

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?

We seemed to always be the last team walking off the field on Sat nights so we took whatever was open

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
Too many to list – JC Phelps thinking he hit one into the wind and yelling at the centerfielder who had jumped onto the fence, "get off the fence Peter Pan", then realizing the player had to jump off the fence and dive forward for it because of how windy it was.

After a long first inning I've seen an infielder yell at his pitcher to throw a strike, because he was afraid he would get pulled from the game without even getting an at bat.  I'm not saying any names, but the whole infield fell over laughing and had to call time.  Classic!

Robin, I coach a new team to USSSA conference called Body Renew Softball. Body Renew Fitness is located on the west coast and is our primary sponsor. A little history, a core of 9 guys have been playing 2-3 tournaments a year for the past four years. This past fall, we received sponsorship that will allow us to play conference. We have 4 players out of Alaska, 1 Oregon, 3 Kentucy, 5 Indiana. We are looking for a 2nd basemen. We expect to play “B” in conference. Some values of our team are chemistry, character, and talent. All travel, hotel, and tournament fees are covered by sponsorship. We will be playing 11-13 tournaments next year, and if you are interested I can send you our schedule.

    Thanks,

    Mike

      Mike,

Thanks for the offer. I just now saw your post. Unfortunately I wouldn’t of been able to play. Good luck the rest of the season.
