2014 Interview

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
2nd and SS…  2nd base just got use to playing there already

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
There is alot to name.. Brian Wegman is the best all around athlete… Then you have Dennis Rulli who is just a straight out hitter… And Connell flat out kills it… Defensive players I would have to go with Matt Pesso, Chente Granados and Luis Reyna.. Those guys flat out pick it… Then you have Bryson Baker who makes everything look so easy…

Why do you like the game of softball?
Its a fun game… And you get to see so much talent.. Hanging out with friends is always fun…

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
There is alot of them can't name just one.. Have to go with Cory Large.. Guy is pretty good… Hits and plays defense.. And of course my buddy B Dill – Brandon Dillon.. Guy can hit it with power.. Has a strong arm and can cover ground… Stuart Snell is another one.. Guys kills the ball…

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Sally or Flaco.. I use to be really skinny.. Then sally I got it when playing with R&M, its short for salazar I guess lol..

What is your height and weight?
5'10 about 225

Where do you call home?
San Antonio, Texas…  Pride of the westside

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
With my family….  My two little girls even though they are a handful lol

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Played basketball and ran track… Some baseball but not as much… Only HS

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
Well my dad played… I was always out there.. So they were short players so he asked and since then i've been playing the game… Lc watson said R&M was looking for an infielder… So he asked if I was interested and thats how I got here.. Thanks again LC…

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
Alot… conference play is just like MLB… Everything is so organized.. Its just a big difference… There is no tolerance in conference compared to non-conference… There is way to much to say about the difference lol

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
Not really.. My game is kinda different.. I like to punch and poke the ball.. Unlike everyone else who just swing hard..

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
Winning USSSA 'A' worlds in my first year of playing 'A' ball.. Then to make it better I made the all tourney team…

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
My dad… He showed me how to play the game right… And I would always hear your dad is good.. hearing that would make me happy.. I look up to him alot..Even now I hear your still not as good as your dad… So I work on trying to be better then him lol

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Take alot of bp…. It works… And always listen to people when they are giving u advice about softball…

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Overlap and 26 oz balanced

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Bp alot.. As much as I can.. I live in Texas so bp can be done cause we have good weather… And play basketball or flag football.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
San antonio spurs and chicago cubs…. Basketball love watching it and playing it.

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
Don't put my game pants on till the game is gonna start…

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
Drake- started from the bottom now were here

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
Nothing really… Its fine the way it is…

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Budfest in College Station.. Everyone in Texas shows up to that tourney every year…

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Disney… Field is just perfect…

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Buffalo wild wings…  Eat that alot lol

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
When we played with a team called the choppers… My friend rick was so drunk.. He hit and fell down.. when he got up he asked if we won not knowing he hit a double play.. When he got up he was all wet from his shorts.. but he stills says he didn't pee on himself… Lol
