Interview conducted on 7/24/2017

Who are you playing with in 2017?
2017 Free Agent – r.robinson3@yahoo.com

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
UT my best position is UT

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
I would probably have to say Flip Washington. Flip goes out and hit with the best of them and turns around and goes run the grass!

Why do you like the game of softball?
The competitive nature of it. I've seen softball bring out the best in people but also the worst in them. But that is just the competitive nature of it.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
It's hard for me to say cause I've played with and against a lot of players who hsve just straight up raw talent. And I would also consider myself as up coming player in this game.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
I haven't really had a nickname stick to me in the softball world. But all of my friends and family call me shorty

What is your height and weight?
I'm 66 inches and I weight 165

Where do you call home?
Home for me is a small town in Louisiana called DeRidder.

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
In my off time I love to spend time with my friends and family. I don't get to see my friends a lot since we all moved away and doing big things.

What do you do for a living?
I'm in the Air Force Reserves and my civilian job I work on a Army base. Weird I know lol.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
High school I played Basketball, Football and Baseball
College I played 3 years of baseball.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
One of best friends name Shayne Boutta took me to a tournament when I was like 16 and lied to tournament director and told him I was 18 and old enough to play. Also my softball pops MJ Jones took me under his wing and took care of me a lot through my career.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
The consistency of the hitting. At this level of the game the players rarely get cheated at the plate.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
Not really. I think everyone has there own way they play the game. Everyone is different

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
I would say making The All Armed Forces team this past year. It was an honor to wear team USA on my chest.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
There is no single person. I've had multiple people push me and helped me to get better and I still have people that push me to be the best.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Respect the game and play the game hard every time you step on the field. You never know who's watching. And remain humble because it can all be taken away from you in a split second.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Traditional baseball grip.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
i don't really have an off season cause in Louisiana you can play year around. But I do run a lot and workout often to stay in shape.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
MLB- Boston Red Sox
NFL- Dallas Cowboys/ but my favorite player is DeShazor Everett who plays for the Redskins #22
NBA-No favorite team just some players I like
NCAAF- LSU
NCAAB-North Carolina Tar Heels

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
Not really any superstitions. I try to do the same thing before I bat every time.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
Good question I'll have to look st my play list

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
I've been in the upper long enough to see any flaws.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
My favorite non world tournament is probably the Red rock and blue in Baton Rouge Louisiana cause of what the proceeds go towards.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
The best complex I've played at as far as the atmosphere and the quality of the fields is probably pelican park in Lafayette Louisiana.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Waffle House or BWW

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
I've watched a guy on my team fly out to the catcher but the ball bounced off his head 1st cause he didn't move out the box cause he didn't know where it went. By far the funniest thing I've seen in my life.
