PJ Garcia

USSSA Playing History

2015 Interview:

Why do you like the game of softball?
It allows me to stay competative and keeps me young at heart

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
One of the best all around players I've seen in the last 4 years is Bryson, guy can play every position better then good and still smashes the ball.
Best difference maker has been Andy by far.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
Isaac Gonzales and Tyler Espland. These 2 guys are getting their first shot in the conference and I think they'll stay here for a while.

What is your nickname in softball?
 Peenut

What is your height and weight?
 5'10 215

Where do you call home?
I currently live in Colorado Springs but home is always California

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Love spending my off weekends just hanging with the family. With 2 boys ages 2 and 5 I never really have an off weekend. We like to go to San Francisco to get away for the day but if it was up to the boys we'd be at chucke cheese all the time!

What do you do for a living?
Sales manager for Accoy contracting and also work for list Logix.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Played high school baseball, basketball and football.  Played college baseball at Upper Iowa University

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
After being let go from the Demarini team last year, I was very thankful Stro from West Coast Doerflinger gave me a shot. I'd like to thank Chente Granados for giving Stro my info.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
Yes , Aaron Ingram…..guy is a real coach and tells you like it is whether you want to hear it or not, honesty is lost now a days.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Don't expect things and be greatful that a sponsor is willing to pay for you to travel the USA to play ball. Don't be act bigger then the game

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
The respect of the game! Playing locally there is no respect and everyone takes stuff way to serious, if someone hits middle then people want to fight.

What position do you play?
I play the "chuck and duck" position, Pitcher

What batting grip do you use?
 Standard

What ounce bat do you use?
 26

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Well this year I've taken some time off after the last month of traveling to Florida 3 times in about 5 weeks. When thanksgiving came close I started back hitting twice a week and while I hit I'm also working on pitching in between.

What is your favorite sports team?
Raiders, SF Giants, DUKE BLUE DEVILS

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
Football and basketball and a little golf.

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
Before every game and every first pitch of the game I always draw my kids initials in the dirt

What is your most memorable softball moment?
Coming from behind against Combat in Arizona. Down 14 in the 7th and I think we put up like 22 runs or something crazy like that. A run I'll never forget and with that being my first tourney in the conference, I was definitely in softball heaven!

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
 Classic man

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
Nothing I like it the way it is.

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
Palm spring t4t. The best off season tourney with arguably the best talent there.

What is the best softball field you have played at and why?
Seattle and Disney major field. Disney field because of the atmosphere and even though I only saw a few innings there it was probably my best moment in softball.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
 Any where not to picky

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
The funniest thing had to be when we played Demarini last year in Seattle, newbill was pissed he didn't get a call to end the game and busted our bat bucket, then Cal Ford casually walked over grabbed a bat from their bucket, smashed their bucket, bat flipped the bat walking out saying, " HE GONE!" also playing with JB, Johnny bailey, your almost always going to laugh with that guy in your team. He probably has the best one liners that I've personally ever heard.
