Lynell Nelly McLeod

USSSA Playing History

GoSoftball.com Player Page

Who are you playing with in 2014?
Vivid – TCNELLY84@YAHOO.COM

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
Outfield and prefer Center and left

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Many to choose from but my boys Connell (don't take BP with him unless you got welding gloves or 4 hours to spare) Reyna, Durick, Santana, Junior, Kennington, Bazat, D-Rock, Grienart (hits it a ton) Purcell, Yates, Branch, P-Dub!

Why do you like the game of softball?
A way to be a kid outside normal work and have fun with your teammates.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
Reyna- my little buddy has a sick glove, hits it well lefty or righty.
Santana- my dude is a go getter and hits it
Yates- continues to get better every year. My favorite ginger 😉
Tommy Melton- guaranteed 100% every game and has raw talent
Trenton Simms- new to the conference but will be known by seasons end
Phillip "P-Dub" White- hits it and fields it
Orlando- another raw talent
Lee Payne- 5 tool player in the outfield and hits it
Collins- my dude can hit it and just comical to have in the dugout
Rockoff- high socks don't care can hit to be that short and skips leg day each week
Tre Campbell- he hits it well and plays 100%
Wiggs- hits it well

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Nelly and my grandma back when I was little. Since my sisters name is Janelle we both would reply with ma'am.

What is your height and weight?
6-180 but 184 with my long hair don't care

Where do you call home?
Tampa, Florida but Uncle Sam has me in Valdosta, Georgia

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Those are far in between but normally on the Play Station beating Collins in Tiger Woods or beating C. Boothe in Madden. Hanging out with my mom since my brother passed we don't miss many chances to do things together.

What do you do for a living?
Air Force 14 years of fun

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Baseball, Football and Track/ UF for year then out to OK for a JUCO

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
We got put out in a baseball tournament and I was watching All-Star Plumbing/Worth play in OKC. Hodge said they needed one for a game and been on it since. I finished the year out with them and joined the military after to only go right back to the beaches of Oklahoma haha. Thanks Hodge

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
Conference- not many errors and teams will make you pay
Non-conference- people blowing middle with no care for the man/woman who has a job

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
No I think each individual is different and has their own ways

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
Winning the NSA Superworlds as a C team with Blockers/Easton. Think Bruce is sponsoring a Combat team now

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
There are quite of my boys who encourage me to play conference. So, it speaks volume of the conference guys telling you that.
Coach Pete Campbell I think I might have beat his team(s) in dozens of games but he always spoke positive to me.
Troy Nance picking me up off of someone's word then the Air Force took me overseas.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Work hard and know someone is working just as hard or harder

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Standard and 26oz

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
I just started this new place called a gym so that is in there. Normally there is no offseason in Florida with the great weather.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Florida Gators, Bucs, Rays, Lightning and Heat! Football but it is getting soft now from when my dad played

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
Always take a knee in the outfield first time out of the game and just thank God for blessing me to have the abilities to play the game!

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
Future-Don't you judge me

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
Don't make the furthest traveling team have the first game

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Rose is fun, PACWIDE in Seoul, South Korea and the Smokys (thanks Prime Time)

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
BLD either one

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
McDonalds cannot beat the dollar menu haha

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
A lot. Anytime my boy Collins is drinking something hilarious will happen. He is known to climb fences and be shirtless in 3 seconds

Playing against Wegman in Korea I hit three balls to him backside and he yelled to pitch me inside or walk me. Same Tournament Reggie Meyers hit a creature and said "Wegman who" only for Wegman to hit one about 400 ft and shrug his  shoulders

Playing with Boothe and D-Rock in Virginia I asked D-Rock how many outs he made and he said none dummy hand me a Natty Lite, so I asked CB and he said I don't make outs. I said dang I'm chasing 2 then and CB's next at bat he thanked me for his F-7 and we handed the pot of money to D-Rock but he was kind and bought us drinks haha

Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
I hate running long distances but ran cross country. Think it was parent pushed to keep my GPA haha

What was your favorite sports related gift you have ever given or received?
Would not call them a gift more of a honor to be apart of a team where the sponsor puts their own money into allowing you to play a game you like/love.
