ASA Playing History

USSSA Playing History

Why do you like the game of softball?
Its a sport that you can play for a very long time if you decide to.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen?
There are many in my opinion, brett helmer, jeff hall, denny crine, matt peso, deonitis jr, and many other and each has different aspects of why they are great players.

Where do you call home? Alta loma, CA

What do you do for a living?
I own a A/V company that started in 1994.  We build dedicated theaters, do home automation, lighting control, whole house audio video and sell flat panel tv's/ surround sysems etc.  I also helped start Famous Sports.

What is your softball background as a player?
I have played softball off and on since 1993 and didnt get really into it until 2004

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I was asked by friends to play local softball leagues but my first tournament team was with john from suicide kings.  Then put together a work team called "elite" then started the OG team famous with george reyes and gabe ponce and friends.  From there it just grew in to higher levels and more competetive play and Mel from Johnny Blaze gave me my first opportunity in upper ball.

Who are you managing/sponsoring in 2011?
I am playing on the famous sports/logo express/easton conference team this year.   Mel helped put this team together for 2011.

What is your teams goal for 2011?
To have a great group of guys on and off the field and compete to the best of our abilities every time we step on the field.  Everything else will fall into place if this happens.

Where do you look for talent?
There is alot of unknown talent out there, the best talent has been found through other players recomending certain guys and seeing guys at upper tournaments.

What is more important, talent or attitude?
Attitudes are most important because this is a "team" sport not an individual sport so you win and lose as a team.

How do you evaluate players?
Team attitude/chemistry is most important and you can always tell someones character when they lose or are down and how they bounce back from it and or perform when the game is on the line.  Also players that work on their game during the week is what I look for and do myself.  You can improve tremendoulsy within a season by working on your game.

What is your favorite sports team?
Dallas cowboys, i've been a fan since 1981, and USC

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
Basketball was since that was my main sport through high school & college.  I also really like hunting and sport fishing.

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I have to tape my bats a certain way and they need to be perfect or I will re-tape them till they are.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
Playing USSSA B worlds last year when we were a huge underdog and came together and battled to make it to the championship with all odds against us.

Is slowpitch softball a sport or a game?
tournament play is a sport, you compete in sports!  weeknight playing is just for fun

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make to bring in more sponsors?
Times are different now due to the economy, and I feel when the economy comes back you will see more sponsors again.  We all need to appreciate what sponsors do for ourselves and thank them for helping out.

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
Toys 4 Tots palm springs

What can be done to improve the Conference Championships?
get more teams to go

Is the game better or worse with homerun limits and why?
unlimited home run tournaments are fun but with limits you have to learn how to become a good hitter, almost anyone can hit a homerun nowdays.

Who was the best team in softball history?
I would say any team can say they are the best in softball history as there are alot of great teams who have had best moments etc or runs a some great years.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
Chuck Shimmels…lol, if you ask Brett Helmer and Johnny bailey and others, they will say the way I run the bases.  haha
