Why do you like the game of softball?
I retired from baseball to spend more time at home. Now I get the best of both worlds, still fueling my competitive edge while being able to come home to the family.
Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Kevin Jones more of a local guy now, but I was fortunate enough to play with him a few years with Gas-it. The best player on the field at any position he played.
Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
After watching our 1st baseman play in Savannah, Chivas Clark wouldn't be a bad pick up.
What is your nickname in softball?
Gilly
What is your height and weight?
6'5" 250lbs

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
It's hard to beat fishing with the family.
Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Played basketball and baseball in High School, baseball at the College of Charleston and was eventually drafted by the KC Royals. I spent 7 years in the minors before getting my cup of coffee. Played one more year with the Rockies AAA before retiring in 2005
How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
Started Gas-it when I retired from baseball, eventually just moved up through the classes.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
Well I have two, "You never know who is watching," (the reason I got to continue baseball after college) and "NO WHINING" – I love you mom, RIP.
What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Give it your all 100% of the time and don't get frustrated, you're playing against the best of the best.
What position do you play?
OF primarily CF
What batting grip do you use?
Drop the pinky off the knob
What ounce bat do you use?
28 ounce mayhem XL
What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
There is no offseason, I have three kids that are active in sports.
What is your favorite sports team?
Atlanta Braves, Falcons (Dirty Birds)
What is your favorite sport other than softball?
Fishing or Golf
Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I played baseball for years so it may be easier telling you what I don't do lol
What is your most memorable softball moment?
Playing in the WSL D World in 2006. Saturday's games got rained out. We were in the loser's bracket and had to come back at 7 am Sunday morning. After playing 11 games that day, we finally ran out of gas to finish 3rd at 1 am Monday morning. I think I'm still sore.
What would be your "at bat" music selection?
I am used to coming out to the 7th inning stretch but I'll have to go with…lol Roy Jones Jr. "Can't be Touched."
What is your favorite non-World tournament?
Smoky
What is the best softball field you have played at and why?
The show field at the Smoky was pretty nice
Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Applebee's
What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
Playing Jean Shoppe in Atlanta, our left fielder went back to rob a HR. He proceeded to climb the fence only to realize that the wind had pushed the ball back in about 10 ft short. Sorry CG, but still the funniest thing I've seen.
