Jacob Crawford

USSSA Playing History

Who are you playing with in 2015?
Free Agent – pitchr001@gmail.com

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
Anywhere in the infield best position is first base.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
I would have to say that one of the best I have seen play is Cameron Cox. I had just moved back home to NC from working in Florida for a few months, I got to meet him through a mutual friend of ours in BP and he liked my swing and helped me work on it to what it is today. Also he just reads the ball like no other. Just a natural in the field.

Why do you like the game of softball?
The game of softball gives me that competitive edge that I have been missing since high school baseball. I have met some awesome people in this sport since I started playing and have made some life long friends because of it.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
Best up and coming players that I know would have to be John Guerrero, the boy can flat out smash and hold down the outfield. He would definitely help out any upper team in the outfield right now.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Country or cornbread- When I first started playing in Texas the team I was with asked where I was from and I told them, they assumed I ate cornbread all the time and thats how I got so big.  So it has just stuck ever since that first tournament

What is your height and weight?
6'4 250

Where do you call home?
College Station, Texas but typically Burlington, North Carolina

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Off weekend would be picking up with another team that isn't playing or if there is no tournament going on, then going to a sporting event of some kind

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Baseball in high school but that is it

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I got my start playing Intramural softball in my undergrad at East Carolina University. Then one day I was taking BP in the cages and got approached by a random guy that asked me if I wanted to play league with them. And I was hooked after that. I am still waiting to catch my break for upper ball. Hopefully I will get a call this year.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
The most surprising difference I have noticed is the entire game is different. You have guys that can hit it where they want and when they want as hard as they want too. You always have to be on your toes and be ready for a ball because they will find you and pick on you!

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
I can think of two people right off the top of my head. Cameron Cox and King Jerry. Both of these guys have helped me through the last two years by giving me help in the field defensively and with my swing. If i was down to take BP they were there too always with criticism and wanting to help me get better.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
BP and work at your game. Never take a play off because you never know who will be watching you. Also if you know some people that are playing upper then don't be afraid to ask them for help. Most of them are willing to help you or give you some advice to get better.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Normal grip and drop the bottom pinky off. 27oz

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Luckily in Texas there really isn't an off season persay. But BP as much as possible when the weather permits, take ground balls and hit the gym.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Baseball- Atlanta Braves
Football- Carolina Panthers
College FB- ECU Pirates
Basketball- Charlotte Hornets

Gotta go with the home town teams and Alma Mater

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I make a line in the batters box, knock my shoes, restrap my batting gloves, then take my hat off and put it back on.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
Blow Up by J Cole

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
As everyone says, making a limit on the number of Major players on a roster.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Probably the battle of the rings in Texas, just because who doesnt like playing for a ring and its on the turf field in Mansfield BLD

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
BLD and the Myrtle Beach Complex, can't beat the turf complexs and BLD has a couple bars and TV's so you can catch up on the games and have a beer while doing it.
