USSSA Playing History 2010

Played Shortstop for Southcoast before the team folded and also played Shortstop/5-Man for Elite Sports USA last year in Conference.   Can play any position but mainly an infielder.   Would like to remain playing B level or higher.

Why do you like the game of softball?
It helps keep me sane and I’ve met some great friends through softball.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Offensively, Julio Salazar is the best all around hitter that I have seen.   Defensively, Matt Pesso absolutely kills it on defense.

Where do you call home?
Currently, La Crescenta, California but I grew up in Carson, California

What do you do for a living?
I’m an I.T. guy that supports JPL (the Jet Propulsion Laboratory) in Pasadena, California…stressful job but like I said, softball is my therapy!   Hahahaha

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Yes, Baseball in High School and College.   Even won a couple National Championships.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
My first real start was with an All Samoan Tournament team called the All-Browns out of Carson, California.   What up Gene Afusia!   We played in our first Tournament put on by Jr. Seau and Dan Saleamua.

I got to the upper level by word of mouth.   B.K. (Bryan King) fellow Los Angeles Harbor J.C. Alum helped me get my foot in the door with Team Cenco out of San Jose, California.    Jimmy Torres, Darryl Kuykendall and Carlos Vega picked me up for their teams and from there its been on…

What position do you play?
Primarily Shortstop but I can play 5-Man and all the infield positions.   I can play everything really, I’m very versatile.   I just want to play and do my part in making a team successful.

What batting grip do you use?
The standard baseball grip

What is your favorite sports team?
The Los Angeles Dodgers

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
Baseball

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I have too many to list and not embarrass myself.   LOL.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
I’ve had so many it’s hard to choose one

Is slowpitch softball a sport or a game?
I think it’s both.   I work out to continuously improve my skills, strength and speed but at the same time, you gotta have fun.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?

Hold more upper level tourneys in Southern California.

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
The Dudley…The Toys For Tots Tourney in Palm Springs is fun too

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
This one time we were playing in Las Vegas and it was hotter than hot.   It was the championship game and during the middle of the other team’s player’s at-bat, the umpire called TIME and walks over to the backstop and pulls a towel and bottle of water out of his bag hanging on the fence.   He wipes his face and takes a couple of swigs of water.   We were on defense and were all thinking, what the hell?   As the umpire walked back to the plate, our first baseman yelled, Hey Blue…Time!   If you get a water break so do I!   Our first baseman walked off the field, into the dugout, sat down and drank some water for what seemed to be a few minutes.   Then he told the umpire, Ok, I’m ready now.   You had to be there, it was hilarious.

Who are you playing with in 2011?
I was playing with Southcoast but the team folded.   I’m currently looking for a team to pick me up.
