Smoky Champions – Dan Smith/Menosse/Steve Smith/FAI (CA-Major)

The most prestigious regular season slow pitch tournament in the World every year is the Smoky Mountain Classic with its unlimited home runs and 80 foot bases played in the foot hills of the mountains on a high school baseball field surrounded by two hills where fans can sit in the shade and watch the legends of the game play.  This year there were two of the biggest upsets in the 52 year history of the Smoky!  First, Sports Reach outfielder Robbie Fow hit a 2 out 3 run homer in the bottom of the last inning to beat #2 ranked Resmondo in the quarterfinals 29-28!  Then in the semifinals Anarchy/MPT Rentals out slugged #1 ranked Dan Smith 46-42.  This made for a winner's final on Saturday night that consisted of an 'A' team Sports Reach from Kentucky vs a 'AA' team Anarchy/MPT from New Jersey.  In that game Anarchy pulled away late to win and Dan Smith who was in the loser's bracket and knocked off Bad Draw early in the wee hours of Sunday morning came back at 8 am and knocked off Pure Sports, Sports Reach, and "double dipped" MPT to win the Smoky!  Dan Smith's first Smoky win since 2002.
