2014 USSSA Hall of Famer Chris Walker!

Chris Walker

ASA Playing History

USSSA Playing History

Why do you like the game of softball?
I like the competition and the relationships that you establish.  Most of my best friends are from softball.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Although I’ve been playing for a while I have only seen and been around the best for the past 6 six years so it’s hard for me to compare players of today to earlier years BUT I would like to know someone more dominant that Andy Purcell.  We used to look forward to him coming up to the plate but now that’s not even the case.  He can literally control the game.  He can pitch, now he is a very good hitter, and something that is overlooked sometimes, he is the best defensive pitcher and is literally a 6th infielder.

What position do you play?
Catch and EH but I like to play 1B in old man ball

Where do you call home?
Bryant, AR

What do you do for a living?
Fence Wholesale Business

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Played Football and Baseball in High School

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
My buddies I played baseball with in American Legion started playing in 1992 and we just played E, then D, then some C.  I recognized that better teams could have been assembled if someone would just do it.  I started sponsoring teams in 1995 and played in our first USSSA A World in 1996 in Roanoke, VA (we were way out of our league).  Sponsored again in 1997 and then in 1998 just played with a team called First Commercial with Johnny Glidewell and Timmy Howard.  Took a break from softball from 1999-2004 then assembled Team Arkansas in 2005 and when the Conference began 2006 we joined and have participated since its inception.

What batting grip do you use?
Two fingers off with overlap

What is your favorite sports team?
Razorbacks

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
Baseball

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I don’t.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
Both this year, getting 3rd at the Major this year and the McQuade’s.  After going 0-2 in B World I was just hoping we wouldn’t get run ruled twice at the Major and the McQuade’s is just  a lot of fun.

Is slowpitch softball a sport or a game?
Sport

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
Limit the Major players per team.  I don’t think that’s the cure all but that would be a good start.

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
McQuades is phenomenal.  We are going back this year.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
Me trying to get a hit off Purcell with the wind in HIS face.
