Interview conducted on 7/19/2022

Who are you playing with in 2022, and who have you played with in the past?
2022 Free Agent – Blakenelson34@yahoo.com

Played with Dirty Vegas past 2 years. Before that I pitched for LOB B team.

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
I pretty much Pitch the most but played 1st coming up.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
There’s a lot of greats. I would have to say probably Hitting KP. But as a pitcher you gotta love what Clark does on both sides.

Why do you like the game of softball?
It fuels the competitive nature after your baseball career ends.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
There’s a couple that I would say that are on that list. But  one is  definitely Eli Christenson from Adiktiv. Dude works his tail off and can bang it.

What is your height and weight?
6’0 220

Where do you call home?
Tyler, TX

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Definitely hanging with the fam.

What do you do for a living?
I’m a corporate recruiter.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Played Baseball

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I came from a small town so we never had slowpitch. Moved to Tyler came out one night to league and was hooked. Then  started playing tourneys in DFW. 2017 Doug Wood asked me to play for Woodlaw and that was my first chance at conference.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
Definitely the speed, hustle and the work you have to put in. It’s just a complete other level. Also pitching the hitters have more patience they will make you pay for  a bad pitch.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
By far winning ASA A&B worlds last year.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
There’s been tons! You have to stay humble because this level will definitely humble you. You should never go to a tourney and not learn something new from somebody. The day you quit learning is the day you reached your limit.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Keep grinding it’s all about the work you put in when no one is watching. Same when you show up on Saturday be a good teammate in whatever aspect your in. Because there is always someone watching you.  Make sure it’s always a positive response from them to the next guy.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Drop bottom two fingers full overlap with top hand. 26oz  this year, always a 27 before.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Hit Bp and gym.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
New York Yankees! Definitely Baseball.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Snowball or Tripp Roth

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
The stadium at Viera is nice.  Also Hall of Fame at OKC, something about that complex does it for me.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Roadhouse
