USSSA Playing History

Major List Player

12/7/2018 Interview

Who are you playing with in 2019, and who have you played with in the past?
Dan Smith

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
Catcher/EH

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Andy Purcell: He controls the game on the mound and usually hits for a high average

Why do you like the game of softball?
It is a good get away from work and fulfills my competitive side

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
Danny Garcia – He has the speed and the power to compete at the next level. He hits it backside as good as anyone and isn’t afraid to Dab in front of someone after doing it.

Aaron “Tropicana” Nance: He may by small, but his heart is mighty. I once witnessed him hit 5, 3 run home runs off the AP. On the last one he started doing push ups on home plate flexing on them.

Logan Turner is a infielder who will hit for high average and pick it on any surface with the best of them

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
BamBam – When i first got into the conference with Nightmare i swing a 30oz endloaded bat. I believe Nolan gave me nickname due to the weight of the bat and my appearance.

What is your height and weight?
6’4
240lbs

Where do you call home?
Dickinson, Texas

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Out at the ranch relaxing or with family and friends around town

What do you do for a living?
Self-Employed

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Played High school Football and Basketball

Played a little Basketball and Baseball in college. Declined to play football at the next level

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
My first time playing softball it was Friday night beer league softball with the Blues Bar & Grill Bombers coed team. My buddy Danon would always go out there and play and finally invited me out.

My first conference game was with Fence Brokers, Billy Ray got me a try out and well… my first ab i struck out swinging to Geno Buck.

The next opportunity was with Nightmare when they needed a pick up for the Houston Major one year and thay asked Hutch with Lonestar Softball if he knew of anyone. He threw my name in the bucket and got me the try out with Nightmare.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
The pitching and consistency defensively at the conference level are by far the biggest differences on the field.

The umpires at the conference level are also a lot more consistent then what you’d find locally. They are truly passionate about the game.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
I’ve never really compared myself to anyone.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
Getting to play in the king seat game in 2018 against Resmondo. It was a heartbreaker for us, but a great learning/growing experience for our young team. The game was literally inches away from going our way.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
Manager: Tim “Richard” Barnes, he is the kind of coach who can get his whole team to buy into what he wants. He makes you hustle everything out and holds you accountable for everything you do. If you don’t hustle everything out he lets you Hear it.

Players: Billy Maggard always motivated me to take BP and work on my game when i was younger

Steve Whaley was a great mentor for me when i was always acting an ass joking around etc… He told me when i got my chance “Carry yourself like a professional on an off the field. You never know who is watching you."

Ben Dunn is always pushing me to be better as he works harder than anyone I’ve ever met in life. Not only at the game of softball, but with his approach to training hisself and kids of all ages at Playoff Performances.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Keep working hard at your craft. If you get a chance make the best of it and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Overlap

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
I start training again mid Janurary in the gym

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Houston Astros & Baseball

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
Never really had one

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
Tom Petty- Won’t back down

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
I like it just the way it is

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Schulenburg- Small town festival tourney

Tripp Roth is the best non-Conference tourney i get the privilege in partaking in every year

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Space Coast

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
I’m a big sandwich guy… So any good sandwich shop

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
There are a few:
Buddy back home fouled a ball off and it hit him in the nose and broke his nose along with two black eyes.

Kilburn ripping ass midswing in Dallas was the other lol
