Tournament Preview

2019 USSSA 'AA' World Bracket and Team list link

The 2019 USSSA 'AA' World Tournament will be played this coming Saturday and Sunday, September 14-15 at the Space Coast complex in Viera, Florida.  10 teams total will battle it out double elimination style to crown a deserving champion.  The tournament starts at 9 AM Eastern time on Saturday morning on the White Demarini field with the majority of the winners bracket played throughout the day and into the evening with 8 teams coming back on Sunday.  The tournament resumes on Sunday morning on two fields in the White quad and moves into the stadium when there are 3 teams left.

Upsets reigned in the early goings of the 2018 'AA' when Primetime and LaFamiglia who were 'A' teams made the final 4 of the winners bracket.  There should definitely be some upsets in this years 'AA' but the top 3 teams all year were Bay Area, Precision, and Thunder and then a half step behind them was Xtreme.  To win 'AA' worlds you have to win 3 in a row against 'AA' teams at some point, which is a tall order for anyone but Bay Area, Precision, or Thunder.

The USSSA 'AA' World Tournament is played with Nationwide Conference rules – no floating rubber, foul on second strike is an out, and a 12 home run limit.  Fences are 325 feet and the Dudley Pro M ball will be used.

USSSALive.com will stream all of the games (Remember its $4.99 for 30 days)

And of course the chat room here at SoftballCenter.com will be up as well to discuss the games live.

2019 'AA' World picks brought to you by ASPNation.com!

Shea Nation's picks

This weekend the AA World Tournament will take place in Viera, FL with 10 teams in attendance and 9 from the Nationwide Conference USSSA which will include 8 AA teams, 1 A team and 1 local C team.  The #1 overall seed BayArea/Rapid Fire/Bad Draw/Easton will try to win and gain momentum for next weekend's Major World Series.  The other teams looking to upset the favorite are: NIGHTMARE/MIKEN; Xtreme/Miken/ASP/Athlon; and SmashIt/Precision/3rdStreet/Bulldaw.

Predictions:  The final 4 undefeated should be Xtreme versus Nightmare and Bay Area versus Thunder.  Bay Area will find itself in an unfamiliar spot from last year's A World Tournament as the undefeated team.  In the loser's bracket, I predict all teams to win their next game after dropping down so that will put Nightmare and Thunder in the 4th place game.  I predict Nightmare to move on to the 3rd place game to face Xtreme that would like nothing more than to reenact the scenario from 2017 and double dip the #1 seed.

Shea's Final Picks for the AA World Tournament are:
1. BayArea/Rapid Fire/Bad Draw/Easton
2. Xtreme/Miken/ASP/Athlon
3. NIGHTMARE/MIKEN
4. SIS/Thunder/Miken/Worth/Anarchy/OA
5. Newbreed/Cutter LLC
    Riot/Hub's Pub/Klutch/A&A Utility

Weekend Weather

The weather looks like normal Florida warm with a chance of rain.

The National Hurricane Center does show a chance of a tropical depression affecting weather in Florida possibly on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  The 5 day weather cone is shown below.

The Teams!

#1 CA-AA – Bay Area/Rapid Fire/Bad Draw/Easton – 11-5 vs 'AA' teams this year.  Bay Area has proven all year that they are the top team in 'AA' starting with Houston and HOF #2 where they finished 2nd, Colorado where they won, and Cincinnati where they finished 2nd.  They have great pitching with Bill Pinkham pitching almost every inning this year.  They have probably the best infield defense anchored by middle infielder Ryan Mcclanahan who was the Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 and Chente Granados who is fighting some nagging injuries.  Offensively they are led by outfielders Tyler Marshburn and Tyler Wilson, catcher Chad Mullins who knocked in 192 runs, and late season pickup John Radich who sported a .783 on base percentage for the year.

#2 MO-AA – Nightmare/Miken – 7-10 vs 'AA' teams this year.  Nightmare has 6 players that had over a .700 on base percentage including pitcher Mike "Nino" Echeverria.  The defense is led by middle man Zane Migues.  This team was built with power in mind and they may get an opportunity to try and out power their opponents this weekend.

#3 MN-AA – Xtreme/Miken/ASP/Athlon – 8-6 vs 'AA' teams this year.  Xtreme started out hot beating Resmondo at the Hall of Fame Classic and winning the Cajun but have cooled off as the season has gone on.  Xtreme won the 'AA' in 2017 so we know they can rise to the occasion.  Faron Miller a mid season pickup took over some of the pitching duties.  Curtis Stewart led the team in onbase, home runs, and RBI.  And their new additions this year center fielder Matt Schrage, outfielder Chris Anninos, and shortstop Steve Whaley have all seemed to fit into the "Xtreme Way".

#4 IL-AA – Smashit/Precision/3rd Street/Bulldawg – 7-3 vs 'AA' teams this year.  Precision only played 10 games against 'AA' teams but finished 2nd in Chicago with all the Major teams present and was 2nd at the Dudley and is an experienced force going into 'AA' Worlds.  2B Jeff Flood, OF Brad Lunda, and catcher Jason Magnum led the offense.  And pitcher Andrew Vitcak and MI Jeff Keske led the defense.

#5 NY-AA – SIS/Thunder/Miken/Worth/Anarchy – 10-3 vs 'AA' teams this year.  SIS/Thunder was basically the top 'AA' team in the country after they picked up OF Filip Washington, 3B John Williams, and SS Zach Messer and became a 'AA' team.  They were 2nd at Myrtle Beach and Euless and won the Oklahoma Major.  Washington and Williams were amongst the league leaders in a few offensive categories.  They picked up Colin Baartman mid season to lock down center field.  And the pitching of Danny Evans and defense of middle infielder Brian McBryde have had a great deal to do with their success.

#6 NY-A – MPT Rentals/EVO9X – 5-4 vs 'AA' teams this year.  MPT has played better when playing Major and 'AA' teams this year then teams from their own 'A' class.  Dombrowski on the mound has had a big year slaying the dragons.  Genter, Greinert, and Ulmer are the power.  And center fielder Woodrow Darling has come up with some big plays and hits to help this team win big games.

#7 WA-AA – Newbreed/Cutter LLC – 1-8 vs 'AA' teams this year.  Newbreed has had a rough year by all accounts.  They lost their pitcher Dan Sanchez in the 1st half of the season and haven't had much success since winning only 1 game against a 'AA' or higher team.  But they do have some veterans and good talent and could at least pull off one upset.

#8 FL-AA – Riot/Hubs Pub/Klutch/A&A Utility – 4-8 vs 'AA' teams.  Riot finished 3rd in Houston and Atlanta and was 2nd to Thunder in Oklahoma.  Scott Hartling led the team in all offensive categories.  And they traded pitchers mid year and got Losson White from Dan Smith who sparked them a little mid season.  Look for Riot to try and pull off a few upsets.

#9 MI-AA – RebelSports/TN/Troupe/M24/GameBrand – 1-6 vs 'AA' teams this year.  Rebel beat more Major teams this year than they did 'AA' teams so you know they are good enough to compete.  The Formosa brothers and Joe Dorton led the offense and they need everyone else to pick it up offensively.  The veteran Jeff Graus and Matt Chromy do the pitching.
