2018 Space City Classic – Houston Major tournament preview!

NEW RULE IN CONFERENCE:  Anyone taking a game ball can be removed from the park.
Last week the players and fans did a great job of returning the game balls and it had a big impact.
On behalf of the directors and USSSA, THANK YOU!!!!

All game times on the bracket are CENTRAL time!

The 2018 Nationwide Conference USSSA season continues in Houston, Texas this weekend at the 12th Annual "Space City" Classic!  The 64 team field is the biggest in the Conference and teams come from 15 different states.  There are a record 18 teams coming from the Nationwide Conference and they will be the favorites led by Major team Dan Smith who finished 2nd in Las Vegas last weekend.  The games are played at the Big League Dreams park where the fields are softball sized replicas of major league stadiums and the infields are all artificial turf.  The weather is expected to be pleasant with a chance of thunderstorms Friday afternoon and much cooler temperatures than normal on Saturday and Sunday.   The tournament will get off to a slow start with so many teams but the quality of the field has up the past few years.  This year there are 4 'AA' teams and 8 'A' teams to go with the Major team Dan Smith and for the first time there are no 'E' teams in the tournament.

This tournament is known for late games, mid round upsets, unexpected final 4 teams, and can become a war of attrition with the number of games and the long day Saturday which turns into Sunday morning really quickly.  Last year Racks came through the loser's bracket and double dipped Nightmare.

There is also a Women's Major with 18 teams and featuring 2 'AA' and 3 'A' teams.

Remember to enter the weekly pickem game!

Broadcast schedule:  USSSALive.com is streaming 6 fields all weekend (Link)

I am scheduled to land at 3:30 PM Central on Friday so the livestream will be up just before or sometime during the 6:00 PM game hopefully.

The chat room will be up on SoftballCenter.com as well.

Shea Nation makes his picks for Houston!

Houston we have problem!

This weekend the 2018 Nationwide Conference USSSA travels to Houston for the Space City Classic at Big League Dreams in League City, TX.  With March Madness over and "Cinderellas" prevailing like Loyola-Chicago and Kansas State, April Upsets are looming large with 64 teams in attendance and 18 conference teams including 1 major, 4 AA, 8 A teams and 16 B teams.  The only major team Dan Smith/Menosse/Steven Smith is the favorite to win. The other teams looking to upset the favorite are:  Pure Sports/Monsta, Nightmare/Miken, Precision/3rd Street/Bull Dawg, Riot Sports/Broughton/Beckham/Worth, and local Texas team All Out/Steel Sports/ASP/Miken.

Space City Predictions:  The final 4 undefeated: Nightmare versus Precision and Pure versus Dan Smith.  I predict Nightmare to beat Precision and Dan Smith to beat Pure.  In the loser’s bracket I predict the 5th place games to be Pure versus Vivid, and All Out versus Precision.  If all holds true like predicted then Pure and All Out would play for 4th place.

Shea Nations Final Picks for the Space Classic:
1. Dan Smith/Menosse/Steven Smith
2. All Out/Steel Sports/ASP/Miken
3. Nightmare/Miken
4. Pure Sports/Monsta
5. Vivid/Killbombers/OA/Easton
    Precision/3rd Street/Bull Dawg
