9 of the top 15 teams in the nation according to the SoftballCenter.com computer rankings will be in attendance at this weekend’s "Windy City" Major! There will be 38 teams overall and 20 of them are from the Nationwide Conference USSSA!  Which means the winner will score (150 + (20 x 4)) = 230 points!  The favorites #1 Smash It Sports and #2 Resmondo, with #4 Team Racks, #5 Albicocco, and a banged up #6 Backman trying for the upset.  Also look for hometown #8 Precision to pull some upset wins like they did last year when they beat Laservision and Backman in back to back games on the show field and finished 3rd.

The bracket was seeded on this years conference points.

Team List Breakdown:
38 Teams Overall
20 Nationwide Conference USSSA Teams
  4 Major Teams
8 'A' Teams (if Combatants is considered an 'A' team?)
  4 'B' Teams
12 'C' Teams
10 'D' Teams

Weekend Weather

Anonymous Picker:

Some weeks are busier than others.  I apologize to my 2 fans (we've doubled in size) who harped on me that this wasn't done.

Thirty-Eight teams will battle for the Windy City Major championship this weekend.  Twenty teams from Nationwide Conference USSSA will be vying for a first place title and a crucial 230 points in the chase for the 2015 Men's Major World Series.  Smash It Sports and Resmondo come in as the clear favorites in this tournament, but with all this talent and a long road, will either prevail?  Let's get to the picks and find out.

The top half of the bracket features Backman/Shoppe, Precision/Easton, and Smash It Sports.  Those teams all finished in the top 5 at the MMWS in 2014.  The 9:15 Saturday game between Precision and Shoppe is set to be a dandy right away in round 2.  Precision hasn't had the hottest of starts, but they are playing on home turf.  It's tough to pick against a major team, and it's not my style.  However, I have a feeling Precision gets it on track this weekend and pulls off the upset.  If that happens, Precision could play Racks at 1:30 and another really tough test.  The winner of that game would face off against Smash it in the winner's bracket semi-final.  If Precision can get through the gauntlet of Shoppe, Racks, and Smash It Sports it would be the toughest road to the finals of the year.  Unfortunately for Precision, I think Smash it uses a 6 hour break to come out rested and relaxed and takes down the top half.

The bottom half of the bracket does not feature the fire power that there is on the top.  Resmondo looks to have a pretty easy road.  Red's Astros could give them a game at noon, but I think Resmondo gets through.  The big question this weekend is how far can Albicocco/The Scene get this week?  It's been a slow start for Albicocco this year.  The Scene has had a few disappointing finishes this year, but did manage to win the Choo Classic.  Albicocco is the only team with a real shot to take down Resmondo this weekend, but I don't really see that happening.  A game I will be keeping my eye on is the possible match-up between KBI and VCH.  That could be a really fun game to watch and a possible upset in the making.

Resmondo vs. Smash It Sports has happened many times over the years.  It's what's expected at almost every tournament in Conference USSSA.  This one should be no different.  Smash It has found ways to win this year, and I'm sticking to my guns that they are the best team in the country.  I firmly believe that they have the advantage on 300 foot fields, and the middle of their infield with Reyna and Bazat is a distinct advantage.  I'll take Smash It Sports to get this victory and to win the tournament.  Resmondo should be able to get back to the final.  If the top goes as I predicted Precision has a solid shot at 3rd.

Final Picks:

1. Smash It Sports
2. Resmondo
3. Precision
4. Albicocco / The Scene
