Free Agent – brian_moran16@ymail.com

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
Outfield, Center but I can play anywhere.  2nd base if needed, even back up pitch.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Andy Purcell and Bryson Baker, game changers for sure!

Why do you like the game of softball?
It gives me my competitive fix, allows me to get away from my everyday grind.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
DJ Hollingsworth, I'm a little bias because he hits with me twice a week but he cares about his game and improving.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
B-Money, got it from a former teammate who used to fire me up!

What is your height and weight?
5'10 1/2" 195lbs

Where do you call home?
San Leandro, CA but currently live in Union City, CA

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Watching my kids play ball, or enjoying a nice evening at home with my family!

What do you do for a living?
I've been working for the Oakland Raiders for 13 season, I run their E commerce merchandise operation.  I also drive Uber for fun!

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Yes, baseball and basketball.  A little college baseball but I decided getting my girlfriend pregnant would be a best! 🙂

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I was playing league back in 2003 when I was offered to come play in a tournament, addicted to the game even since.  I got an opportunity to play with Classic Glass in 2006 which led to me playing with a few other Local B teams after.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
My game is compared to a guy who hustles out every play, roots for his teammates, and wears his emotions on his sleeve.  There are a lot of guys out there like that so can't name just one.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
Winning State Championship with a group of guys back in Nor Cal that only played local, we had a great team with wonderful chemistry.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
There are several, Garret Sullivan would always remind me how easy the game can be and show case my talent when given the chance.  Also, just the many teammates I've had over the years there are a lot of guys I can say something about.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
The advice I'd give would be advice I should have taken, be humble.  I've learned a lot about this game in the past 10 years, just be happy you get to play each day.  Oh, and take BP cause it does help.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Power grip with top hand over lap

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
I take BP and workout, eat clean and play with my kids daily.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Raiders, A's and Warriors.  Basketball would be my favorite sport, I wish I was a little bit taller!

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
The Dudley was fun but I always enjoyed the Local Concord Major that is no longer around.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Walt Disney for sure, here in Nor Cal I've always enjoyed playing at Twin Creeks.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Anywhere with a good steak or fish.

Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
I play shortstop in Baseball.

Humble, but takes a shot at NOR CAL softball? That’s horrible. Nor Cal softball is where it is today because of guys with attitudes like this. All these big fish in a small pond — jumping from team to team — thinking they are too good to commit to teams and play ball locally — depending on full sponsors to even get them interested. I don’t knock anyone who aspires to play conference ball, but after reading all the interviews on here from conference guys who say to just ‘be humble’ and ‘play hard because someone is always watching’, this is sad. Its a small comment, but I feel I have to stick up for Nor Cal softball because there are lots of great players winning big tournaments at the lower levels who could use some leadership and example from veteran players like Brian — instead of jumping on Softball Center reading that they are too weak for him to play with/against.

Let me help you understand my take on Nor Cal softball, its weak because all they’ve cared about building over the past 5 years was the E program. I never said the talent was weak, there are plenty of good players. I personally don’t care to play in 5 team “Upper” tournaments in Antioch. That’s all there is for guys like me, so it’s very uninviting and in other words WEAK! I hear the 40 and over is good but I’m not there yet. I’m also not relying on full sponsorship either because if you knew me you’d know that I have paid my fair share of money to play and if you read my above interview I have a job. Thanks again Nor Cal Baller for attacking me at 1:50am in the morning, I hope you can get some good sleep soon as I just did. My opinion on Nor Cal is the truth, don’t try and make it sound like things are on the up and up.

You’re so outraged about it he decided to post anonymously. Way to be a brave soul.

  4. PJ Garcia says:

B is a stud! Played with and against him since I started playing softball. He’s right about how local ball. A lot of talent but no upper teams. B can’t wait for palm Springs. Let’s get it!
    Raider nation

  5. The professor says:

B money is being way to nice. Bottom line the talent in norcal is just not good anymore. Has nothing to do with attitudes, sandbagging, sponsorship, etc etc, Dudes just are not as good anymore.

  6. B Dunn says:

Look at N.Cal softball only 1 B team I don’t think any N.CAL C teams went to Worlds B Money was stating A fact. Good luck B money I hope you get picked up on a good team
