14th Annual
"Texas Legends"
Conference USSSA!
May 3-5, 2014
Resmondo Specialty Tank Worth won the 14th Annual Texas Legends Major this past weekend by run ruling Backman/Shoppe/Louisville Slugger 50-35 in the winner's bracket championship game late Saturday night and again 40-9 in the championship game on Sunday. In the final game Resmondo scored 19 runs in the 1st inning and cruised to the title. Resmondo has now won the Texas Legends Major 7 of the last 9 years. The tournament began on Friday night with 29 teams including 13 from the Nationwide Conference USSSA. The games for the most part were pretty close with only a few run rules in the later rounds. Team Combat even had to use a Johnny McCraw walk off homer to beat Texas 'B' team Chill Sports Bar & Grill on Friday night 37-36. In the final 8 it was all conference teams remaining except for Steel/SuncoastSportz.com a 'C' team from Texas who upset JOCO/Adiktiv/Easton 32-17 to get there.
In the final 8, all 4 games were decided by 4 runs or less. Resmondo batted around in the 6th inning against ASPNation/Dynasty/Reset/Easton and hung on to win 24-22. B&B Drywall/Easton, a 'C' team out of Missouri who has played well all year knocked off Line Drive Sportz/R&M Metals/Easton 28-24 after beating Fence Brokers 24-16. In the top half of the bracket, Slattery Logistics upset Team Combat 37-36, and Backman/Shoppe just got past Steel/SuncoastSportz.com 27-24. In the final 4 Resmondo beat B&B and Backman beat Slattery by the run rules. In the losers bracket Team Combat used a walk off hit by Johnny McCraw to beat Vivid and then won 3 more in a row to finish 3rd. ASPNation.com beat 3 straight conference teams in the losers bracket including Line Drive and Slattery to finish an impressive 4th.
With their tournament win, Resmondo moves into second place in the Nationwide Conference USSSA point standings but trail Laservision 1091 to 988. Point standings link.
I will add the all tournament, stats link, and more manager/sponsor post tournament interviews as I receive the information.
A special thanks to Softball World director Chris Thames for dealing with the streaming issues all weekend. I know a lot of die hard Conference fans appreciate it.
In other Conference news Smash It Sports/RAC/Rizzo's/Easton a 'C' team from Rochester, New York came out of the losers bracket to "double dip" RDD/KING/EASTON in the finals of the VTS Northeast Shootout Affiliate tournament. And H. Auto LLC/Easton/Hooters MOA went 5-1 and defeated Nightmare/Louisville Slugger 33-19 in the Minnesota Conference Affiliate tournament.

Comments from the teams:
4th Place – ASPnation/Dynasty/Reset/Easton 5-2 – "I was pleased with the way we played in Euless, showed a lot of backbone. We had a tough loss to Resmondo, but sometimes there are "GOOD" losses. We responded to the loss as I hoped we would and I am now starting to see our "FAMILY" starting to come together. Our offense is sporadic just as our defense is, but guys are starting to learn each other after our merger. We had 2 guys make the All Tourney Team, Jason Magum and Wes Parker. WE are looking straight forward with improvement as our goal each tourney. We are playing at home this weekend In the Atlanta Conference Peach State Classic and hoping to have a good showing." – Donnie Munford-Mgr.
Tied 9th – LA Classic/Worth 3-2 – "I was very pleased with our performance as we are a very young team and we only had (12) of our players this weekend, which limited some of our options. My goal is to improve each weekend going forward as we prepare for Orlando in September. Our next conference tournament is the affiliate in Mansfiled, TX. June 6-8." – Jarvis Chappell, Manager
Tied 9th – Vivid/Worth/Shirt Doctors 3-2 – "Much improved. We put up some big numbers and lost some close games. Both losses came down to the last inning. We have some pieces that still need to be moved around but we are very close to clicking on all cylinders. We are supposed to play the Dallas Affiliate next but after being bumped to 'A' I think we will try and change that and go to Joilet." – Jon Kilburn
Tied 13th – Fence Brokers Inc/Buzini/Worth 2-2 – "Having not played in a month and missing several starters we definitely were not hitting on all cylinders. Looking forward to The Busch July 4th in Arkansas." – Chris Walker-sponsor,player,manager
