The 2014 Nationwide Conference USSSA season kicks off this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada with the 4th Annual "Sin City Classic"!  The tournament features Laservision/H.Auto/JJ's/Easton, Team Combat/Softball.com, Baugh Doerflinger Nat Pawn/Easton, and 4 The Fallen/Easton as the top teams.  These teams will try to slug their way through a field of f 32 teams from 12 different states and 11Conference league teams.

Teams will begin play on Friday, April 4th and the live internet feed here on SoftballCenter.com at 11:10 pacific time on Saturday, April 5th.  Live streaming will continue through the championship game which is set for Sunday at 10:30 AM.  Remember the Softballcenter.com chat room will be up for the entire weekend.  The tournament is held at Big League Dreams park at 3151 East Washington street.  The fields feature artificial turf infields and 6 softball fields each of which is modeled after the look and feel of a major league baseball stadium.

The weather looks to be good although cooler and the traditional nasty winds look like they may stay away.

If anyone needs a player, Jay Hill is available last I heard.  He can pitch, corner infield, or right field, catcher, eh.  Great hitter also

My picks for the tournament:  In the top half of the bracket Sonny's, who has interestingly classified themselves 'B', will probably take on AZM on Friday night in the second round.  4 The Fallen should get by Peak out of Colorado, H. Auto should get past Midwest Hearing, and Team Combat should take care of CSC who has a tough opening round matchup against Tats N Bats.  Then Fallen and probably Sonnys would battle and Team Combat and H Auto.  Both are actually pretty good games and I can see at least one of them being an upset.

In the lower bracket OC Swats will have to get past MyAutoJack on Friday to face Baugh Ford on Saturday.  West Coast New Breed should get to Classic Glass on Friday night in the best matchup of the 2nd round and the winner would get Laservision on Saturday.  OC Swats, Team Combat, and 4 The Fallen are the unknowns in this tournament.  All could finish as high as 2nd or get upset from the 2nd round on.  Swats has played a lot of pre-season softball and their infield plays well on the turf.  I will take Laservision over Classic Glass and Baugh Ford to go to the finals.

I will take Laservision to win.  Their infield with Reyna at SS and Bazat up the middle is almost an illegal advantage on turf and the youth movement on this team should inspire the veterans to a good showing.  Pitching depth or lack there of could hurt a number of teams in this one.

Final Picks:
1) Laservision/H.Auto/JJ's/Easton
2) Baugh Doerflinger Nat-Pawn/Easton
3) Team Combat/Softball.com
4) OC SWATS/MIKEN/PREMIER ATHLETICS
Tied 5) Sonnys
Tied 5) Classic Glass

CSC should battle MyAutoJack for highest finishing non-conference team.

In other news, the great Rusty Bumgardner has announced this will be his last year.  Check out his post on Oldscout here:

Thanks Rusty for all the great years!  Hopefully Team Combat makes it to wherever the camera is set up so the fans can tune in.

Look for a poll on TheOldScout message board to determine what field we will show as they decided to use 3 different fields for the final 3 winners bracket games?
