The announcers were very professional, prepared, and did a nice job.  Denny Helmig used his vast softball experience to explain the game to Beth Mowins who had obviously done some extensive preparation.

Kevin Filby got the Futures on the board in the top of the 1st with a two run homer

Lee Powers hit the first of many shots up the middle by both teams

Brian Wegman for Team USA fought the sun and got crossed up on this liner hit by Chris Larsen that lead to more Futures runs in the first

Futures CF Brian Zirkle ran down Team USA leadoff hitter Don Dedonatis Jr's line drive to start the bottom of the 1st

Greg Connell was safe on the double to CF and beat Zirkles throw to 2nd

Bryson Baker then got the USA on the board with a two run homer

The ball is landing between the trees well past the 350 mark

Team USA celebrates their first runs

Futures pitcher Travis Clark hit one over the scoreboard in the top of the 2nd

That little yellow mark above the 'H' in Hall of Fame is the ball Clark hit

Futures celebrate Clarks bomb

Filby nearly drills the umpire

Futures Lee Powers pounds a 3 run homer in the top of the 2nd

Futures Jeremy Isenhower triples to LC

Team USA tries to regroup, down 12-3 in the 2nd inning.

Futures SS Luis Reyna adds a 3 run homer in the 2nd

USA's Don Dedonatis Jr tries to turn two

Futures Jeremy Isenhower adds a homer to his double and triple through 2 and capping a 16 run inning.

Team USA's Rick Baker hits one over the scoreboard in the bottom of the 2nd inning

Team USA's Greg Connell then went over the scoreboard

Futures middle infielder Kevin Bazat then made a great diving stop to end USA's 2nd inning

ESPN plugged their upcoming game with the Team USA fast pitch team

Frank Yeilding added a 2 run homer in the 3rd for the Futures

Team USA manager Steve Shortland gives an update, saying Team USA isn't panicking

Futures pitcher Travis Clark stabs Bryson Bakers line drive

 

Purcell looks like he was safe at first on a close play

Isenhowers base hit gives him the "cycle" in his first 4 at bats

 

 

Oldscout poster said Zirkle was "off balance" when he hit this clutch 3 run homer.  I don't think so.

With the USA down 20 and the game in jeopardy by run rule, Lee Powers steps on first for out number one then throws to 2nd to try and end the game.  But Team USA runner Johnny McCraw heads back to first base.

An did get back by a hair.  Umpire somehow made the correct call

Team USA's Dennis Rullie then extended the game in the 4th by getting USA under the 20 run rule with a clutch two out homer.

Futures CF Brian Zirkle makes another great catch

With the Futures up 32-10 going into the bottom of the 5th, pinch hitter BJ Fulk ignites a 20 run inning for Team USA with a 3 run homer

Brian Rainwater had 2 homers in the inning

Johnny McCraw had 2 homers in the inning

Bryson Baker added a homer

Rick Baker lined one off of Travis Clarks knee

Rainwater slid home on the ricochet

As the sun went down, Team USA had cut the Futures lead to just 32-30

The middle war continued with no homer's left, Purcell knocked this one down for the out

With no homers left, Futures Kevin Bazat hits a big rbi triple to give Futures a 35-30 lead

Futures third baseman Frank Yeilding makes a great play in the bottom of the 6th

With the game on the line and USA trailing 38-33 going into the bottom of the 7th with no homers left, Clark gets drilled again

Team USA's Rick Baker singles, Rainwater on 2nd is the tying run in the bottom of the 7th

But Zirkle throws out Rainwater at the plate for the final out and a Futures 38-37 win
