Who are you playing with in 2015?
Diamond State Naturals (Formerly the Titans out of Delaware)

Looking for a shot at conference – stephen.wilson@capital.k12.de.us   302-241-3555

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
1st, 2nd, C and EH

Why do you like the game of softball?
I like the game because it gives me a chance to go out and compete and also provides me with fellowship with different people. It gives you a chance to get away from the day to day things and for me I can clear my mind and just play ball!!!!

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
I watch and follow every level and there are too many to say just one.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Steph ( Obvious my first name)

9'er (I wear 9 for my mom's birth month)

Big Time (Former teammate Bobby Hill  started calling me that)

What is your height and weight?
6'0  235

Where do you call home?
Dover Delaware by way of Burlington, New Jersey

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Studying to get my High School Basketball team ready for the upcoming season.

What do you do for a living?
I'm a Special Education teacher at Dover High School and Head Boys Varsity Basketball coach at Dover High School.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Played High School: Basketball, Baseball and football

Played College: Basketball and Baseball

Coached Division 1 Basketball at Delaware State University

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
Local team in Delaware finally gave me a chance after I watched and asked for awhile.

I still play for a local team in Delaware we just travel more due to Rock. ( And former Coach Jim Bob Harrison).

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
I haven't made the jump, but I have been observing and speaking to alot of upper  level players and as I believe in myself they believe in me also because of my work ethic and how I play the game.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
I only play the game one way and that is hard and the right way

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
What sticks out in my mind for me so far is winning a Winter Worlds with the Delaware Titans and being named to the All Worlds Team.

Being Named to the All tournament team at the SNA's in Virginia Beach also with the Delaware Titians ( GREAT WEEKENDS)

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
I can't name just one but:

Randy "Rock"  Bowlin and Jim Bob Harrision ( Always believing in me and for making me be a vocal leader on the field. Giving me that chance one year earlier and I would of been in the conference.

Mike Dill ( Constant Support and for the BP games.)

Ryan D ( The BP)
Brian Hill ( Play Hard)
Brad Betts ( Hit It)
Riggy ( You know I've always said it)

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
I can't I'm trying to break through myself, but what I can say is a lot of people laugh when I say I want to play on the highest level, but the people I mentioned in the previous answers believe in me. If you don't believe in yourself why should a manager or coach believe in you and waste their time and money. God said "Have faith the size of a mustard seed" and I do!!!!!!

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
26 end load with Pinky Drop of Knob

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Hit as much as I can in doors during down time I'm  not in gym with my team and
Workout a little.

Basketball: Philadelphia 76ers
Baseball: Philadelphia  Phillies
Football: Dallas Cowboys

Favorite sports other the softball: Basketball ( Watching and Coaching )

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
Clean Box, get one practice Swing before I get in Box

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
0 to 100  By Drake

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
Give us guys they don't know a shot!

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Any Tournament that is for our Soldiers ( Like what Dave Miller does for the fallen Soldiers in Delaware)

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Myrtle Beach in South Carolina ( turf and well kept)

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Any place with Air conditioning

What was your favorite sports related gift you have ever given or received?
I dedicate my time daily not only with my Basketball program, but to the youth in our community.  The gift I continue to receive is to see the youth that I have effected reach their goals and I know I played a part in their success. There's something about seeing a kid walk across a stage and know they were dealt a bad hand from the beginning and yet they still succeeded against all odds. That truly makes you proud and reiterates why I continue to do what I do. It is a daily grind and softball takes my mind off it for the weekend. That's why I love the game. There's something about being in the dirt.
