2012 Interview

Who are you playing with in 2017?
Free Agent – swood_ebay@msn.com

Why do you like the game of softball?
I love traveling and playing at different parks and in different states.  Also the friendships that are built because of the game, you get to meet so many interesting people at every place you play.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
It is hard to choose just one player since there are so many in the game. Best all-around players would have to be Brian Wegman, Bryson Baker, Andy Purcell and Spike Baker

What is your nickname in softball?
Wood

Where do you call home?
Greenwich, Ohio

What do you do for a living?
Dock man for R&L Carriers.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Baseball, Football, Basketball and Golf in High School

What position do you play?
Infield mostly First and Third

What batting grip do you use?
Standard with pinky drop

What ounce bat do you use?
28oz

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
A lot of indoor BP

What is your favorite sports team?
Pittsburgh Steelers

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
Golf.  My 7 year old loves to play so we go out as much as possible

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I have to drink a Red Bull before I play.
I have to be wearing pink in some way.  My sister is a Breast Cancer Survivor so I wear it to honor her since she is the one who taught me the game.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
It would be running the Breast Cancer Benefit Tourney for my sister. All of the love and support from the softball community was overwhelming.  For our final game we had everyone in our family play.

Is slowpitch softball a sport or a game?
I think it is both.  But it depends why you play it.  It is a sport if you are trying to make yourself better with the goal of trying to compete to win a State, National or World Title.  To me if you are just out playing ball with some buddies or just to have fun then I think it would be considered a game.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
Limit the number of Major rated players per team.  Disperse the talent and it would become more competitive.

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
Firemen's Festival Tourney in Greenwich.  The Tourney is in my back yard, literally, and I have played in it since I was 12.  Tourney runs all night from Fri night to Sunday afternoon.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
A few years ago at the Bash for Cash in Cincinnati Ryan Robbins hits a liner to center field off the fence.  He rounds first base and does his signature "surfer".  Then as he walks back to the bag he looks into his dug out and says "Does anybody have any wet clothes to hang on that line that I just hit to center?" The whole dugout couldn't stop laughing.

What teams have you played for? What class have you played? It’s just weird to me that Ohio has numerous conference teams and you are going without a team? What’s up with that?
