2015 Interview

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
Anywhere in the infield… even though i should be locking it down in Center.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Wegman or Baker.

Local guy that's still got it even though he's like 64 is Larry Carelton.

Why do you like the game of softball?
I've met some of my best friends through softball and have gotten to travel to places I otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity to go to.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
My girlfriend Frank Fracek has as much power as anyone, Jeff Keske is as solid as it gets up the middle and a great teammate, and  Bryan Porter in CF is one of the top defensive OF's I saw this year.

Local kid who will be the next guy to jump into conference if he wants to is Jeff Baird.  And Tino Hobie Nieves is one of the best fielding SS I have seen play at any level.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Burgy or Snakes (home alone).

What is your height and weight?
6' 230

Where do you call home?
Oak Creek, WI

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Something outside, hanging out with friends and a cold beer in hand.

What do you do for a living?
I work at Briggs and Stratton in the Engine Reliability department.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Baseball in High school – 1/2 year of juco before I tore up my wrist.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
Started up playing with my brother in a local league when i was 20.  A year or two later I played against Travis clark and Todd Ankney and played the next year in local tournaments with their Bubbas Excavating team.

In 2011 filled in at the ASA B with Precision and when they joined the conference in 2013 Bill Wax and Todd asked me to join.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
It's a business in the conference.  Guys show up ready to play.  And they take a lot longer to get in the box between pitches….

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
No because that would be an insult to anyone i name.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
This year in general was my highlight. Taking 4th place at my first Major World Series was icing on the cake.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
As far as approaching the game, Todd Ankney.  He has always had my back whether it be on the field or off.

Also, Bill Wax for giving me the opportunities he has these last few years.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
It's just softball, show up, put the work in, have fun and always hustle.  If you have the skill set someone will notice you.  No matter how good you are, there's usually someone better.  Stay humble.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Drop bottom pinky, and overlap top 3 fingers.  26 oz.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Try my best to stay out of the way of moving cars… and lift a lot.  Usually hit twice a week with a group of guys around here.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Green Bay Packers

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I try not to, but the guy hitting in front of me cannot use my bat.  And if i feel like i'm starting to press if  i have a bad game i'll go take a shot of Jameson.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
This past year it was George Michael – Careless Whisper.  Gonna stick to that theme from here on out, i'm feeling Abba or maybe Aqua for next year.  We'll see.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
None.  It's good the way it is.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Oak Creek outseam.  Hometown tournament, aluminum bats, clincher ball, open fields and plenty of Alcohol.  Decent sized crowds and the fans usually get into it with us, great time.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Disney, the atmosphere is awesome.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Twin Peaks, they have an excellent selection of food.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
At the Bash for cash this past year, my buddy hit a ball into the top of the trees in RF at mid america.  We had no homeruns left.  So when he comes back into the dugout he's got this smartass grin on his face cause he knew it murdered it… I ask him, what was the game plan with that swing?  He just busts out laughing and goes idk man i just blacked out hahaha.

Anytime i play with the guys on Cartel, never a dull moment with them.
