2014 Free Agent outfielder Ronnie Lytle!

Ronnie Lytle

USSSA Playing History

Who are you playing with in 2014?
Free Agent – athlete23@comcast.net

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
All outfield with some 2nd base as needed.
Best position would either be LF or CF.

Why do you like the game of softball?
The competition aspect of it is what drives me… You could have the best lineup on paper but everyone can be beat on any given day.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
Matty Crawford… He is a student of the game, always strives to be better, never settles, hard worker, and an overall great guy.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
I have several… The one that I got this year was Rabbit… We were playing one weekend and a good friend of mine brought their son out to the games to be our bat boy… He saw me run and called me Rabbit… From then on all of the guys started calling me that and it stuck…

What is your height and weight?
5'9" – 187

Where do you call home?
Murfreesboro – TN

What do you do for a living?
Auto Claims Adj.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
High School – Football, Track, Baseball

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I switched schools over the summer after 6th grade… The new school had a softball league… The coach, Greg Weyker (Rest In Peace), took me under his wing and taught me everything about the game. From placing the ball to reading hitters on defense. I continued to play and as I got older I started to branch out. I ended up meeting Jason Baxter… We played on a few league teams together and after some time passed he gave me the opportunity to play with CA Sports. It did not turn out the way that we all had hoped but I have had the itch to play upper ball since that season.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
Playing on minor league fields… Learning to position yourself in the green. Most fields are 300-310 all the way around but of course the minor league stadium fields are well past that… Especially in CF.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
Greg Weyker – Not only did he introduce the game to me but he taught me to play it the right way. He made sure that I understood that as fun as this game is, it can all be taken away in a matter of seconds. Take nothing for granted and cherish every opportunity that you have to do what you love.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Always work on your game and do not take plays off… Just never know what coach/player is at the park that day looking for someone with your talents.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
26 EL and 27 Bal
Straight grip

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
NFL – Patriots
NCAA – Ducks
NBA – Any team that Lebron is playing for lol
MLB – Yankees

I would say basketball is my favorite sport other than softball.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
6 foot 7 foot – Lil Wayne ft Cory Gunz

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Any place with a drive-thru
