2011 Interview

Why do you like the game of softball?
The game of softball is probably the last of the "getting older" competitive sports out there.    I like the idea of meeting new guys, developing new friendships, and along the way trying to continue to raise my own personal bar to achieve a team goal of winning a world ring.   The quest for being the best at something or part of the best of something keeps me motivated year after year.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Best softball player, all things considered; on the field (defense and offense) and off the field as far as character with a sick ability to do it all.   I'll name three:
Outfield:  Matt King
Infield: Junior
Pitching: Andy Purcell

Where do you call home?
Blissfield, Michigan

What do you do for a living?
Construction

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Yes:
Highschool- baseball, basketball
College- baseball

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
Well.   Was playing against Matt King when he was with the "Northend Dogs".   He asked me to play with them and that was that.

What batting grip do you use?
2 fingers dropped over knob bottom hand.

What is your favorite sports team?
Cubs

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
College basketball

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I got a little thing I do in the batters box and I'm sure some of the pitchers hate it.  Lol.  I have to make a mound for my back foot take three swings then sweep the front of the box with left foot.  Then hit.  Sorry.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
Winning the 2010 "B" world series with and absolute great bunch of guys and sponsors:   AJS/Mike Foulkes/Wileys Supreme

Is slowpitch softball a sport or a game?
Its both.   The sport of slowpitch softball is growing and individual games can be played at all levels.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
Dump the major program. Use the A, B, C, D divisions as  competitive divisions with Conference USSSA as the more elite group.   Get rid of Rec division and make the current "E" division "rec".   With no world series for them.   Forcing players with serious competitive intentions to move up and sponsors chasing a ring to move up.

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
Firemans in Minnesota.   Unbelievable crowd and 2nd to none.

Who are you playing with in 2011?
PIPAC.   Playing 'A' across the board.
