An Interview with Chad McLamb - 10/21/2010

Why do you like the game of softball?

I love the competetiveness that the game of softball brings.   I like playing against the best players in the nation.   Most of all, I value the friendships that softball has brought to my life.


Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?

Andy Purcell.   He is a game changer and has developed into a great hitter also.   It also helps when you have the best defense playing behind you.

Where do you call home? 

My lovely wife, Amber and I live in Fayetteville, NC.   We are have a baby girl. 

What do you do for a living? 

I am an assistant principal.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?

I played baseball and basketball in high school (point guard and shortstop)

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?

I started playing church ball with my dad's team around the age of 12.   I started out in "C" ball when I was in college with Wardrobe/Cici's out of NC.   I have been with Taylormade/Aubreys/Mizuno for a number of years and moved up to the "A" division. 

What batting grip do you use?

Standard grip with pinky off the knob.

What is your favorite sports team?

Die hard Duke Blue Devil, Braves, Panthers

What is your favorite sport other than softball?

Basketball

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?

I repeat the same thing before every at bat.

What is your most memorable softball moment?

Winning ASA "A" this year with Dan Smith.   We had a blast the whole weekend.

Is slowpitch softball a sport or a game? 

Softball is a game.   You go out there and have fun, then hang out with your boys after the games.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?

Limit the Major division to 4 or 5 elite players.   It's not fun to think about knowing that you are playing for 3rd place every weeekend just because your team has a lower budget.

What is your favorite non world tournament? 

Smoky Mountain Classic
