An Interview with Eric Thompson – 10/20/2010

Why do you like the game of softball?
I like to compete, to go to war with my teammates and know I'm depending on them and know they are depending on me.

Who is the best softball player you've ever seen?
This is a tough one because there's so many players that bring different things to there team.   The best overall player I've ever seen and keep in mind I've only been playing upper level for 4 years is Andy Purcell.   The best infielder I've seen is junior.   The best outfielder is Matt King.   The best overall hitter is Brett Helmer.   The best power hitters are Tim Cocco and Greg Connel – nobody I mean nobody hits it as far as these two and the best all around gamer run through a fence break up a double play and leader is Jason Kendrick.

Where do you call home?
I call home Gray Ga.    A small town about a hour south of Atlanta.   Along with my wife Amy and sons Jacob 8 and Jaden 2.

What do you do for a living?
I own a sign business.

Did you play sports in high school college and pro?
I played baseball in high school and jr college.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you make it to the top level?
I got my start in 1996 started playing some local E tournaments then moved up same year to C then in 1999 started playing B then in 2001 played against Jean Shoppe and beat them lol and Greg Blackburn sponsor liked my game and picked me up in 2002.   From 2003 to 2005 we won 8 world titles then went A in 2006 and won NSA A world title and 2007, 2008 won back to back usssa A world titles.

What's you fav sports teams?
Atlanta braves and Atlanta Falcons

What is your fav sport other than softball?
Baseball!

What's your most memorable softball moment?
No way to pick just 1.   The games brought me so many memories that will last a lifetime.

What is your favorite non world tournament?
Detroit and Cincinnati
