Interview from 2011

Who are you playing with in 2012?

Free Agent looking for Conference team - email

Why do you like the game of softball?
Softball gives me the chance to stay competitive and play against some of the best players in the game.   It has also allowed me to make some great friends and travel all over the country.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
I haven't been around upper ball long enough to answer this but I do love watching Dennis Rulli play because as a smaller guy like myself he can get it done in every aspect of the game. Also love watching Matt Pesso play defense, dude is unreal.   And living in the same town as Denny Crine and having the opportunity to hit with him a lot, I think he is a great hitter.   He can base hit it when needed and then hit it 500ft when needed...total team guy.

Where do you call home?
Las Vegas, NV

What do you do for a living?
I'm a Merchandiser for Southern Wine & Spirits

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Played baseball in HS and then played at Golden West JC in Huntington Beach, CA.   Then transferred back home to play at the Community College of Southern Nevada, and after received a scholarship to play at the University of Nevada-Reno.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
Man I grew up on the softball field with my pops having a team for many years and I traveled to pretty much all the tournaments with him, including when his team Sansone's took 2nd at C Worlds in 98.   Played my first game at about 12/13 years old in league with Drai's when they were short a player.   Started playing C ball in 05-08 in Vegas while still playing college ball. Thanks to my good friend Tony Verdugo, he gave me the chance to play with Johnny Blaze in 09 and the rest is history.

What position do you play?
OF. But since my shoulder is messed up right now been C/DH/1B and even a little 2B...fun for a lefty haha

What batting grip do you use?
Pinky and ring finger overlapped on my bottom hand.

What is your favorite sports team?
Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Lakers, and Oakland Raiders.

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
Baseball

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
Always have to clear out any footprints in the box before I hit and take 1 practice swing and I never touch the foul line.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
Probably taking 2nd at B Worlds last year with Famous when everybody thought we didn't have a chance.   Also in 05 while playing C with Line Drives out of Vegas I was still playing college ball and couldn't go to Worlds cause we had a Sophomore Showcase I was supposed to attend.   But me and another player fell asleep in class and the teacher told our coach and our punishment was to sit out the showcase, so I called my pops and told him and he booked me a flight to Georgia and we went 7-2 and took 7th.

Is slowpitch softball a sport or a game?
Absolutely a sport. With all the time, money, and dedication put into it I think it is a sport.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
I think limiting the amount of Major players on teams would help a lot and it would give a chance for players like me to play with those type of guys and in doing so it would help develop and improve a lot of our games, therefor growing the talent pool even more.

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
Haven't been around too long but I really enjoy Toys 4 Tots in Palm Springs and really enjoyed the Dudley the one time I went with Blaze in 09.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
Probably would have to be in a co-ed tournament I played in about a month ago.   I was playing 2nd and Chris Hansen was playing SS.   He fielded a ball up the middle and spun and threw it. I had ducked to get out of the way but luckily I was facing him cause he threw the ball right at my face, but luckily I reacted quick enough to catch it.   Also last year in Dallas playing against Resmondo.   We had D-Lo pitching and he had struck out Rainwater his 1st at bat and his next at bat he hit an absolute missle by D-Lo's ear that he didn't even react to.   Not only did he not see it our SS, MI, and 2B all said "I didn't even see that ball" probably had to be there but it was comical.
