Andy Vitcak

ASA Playing History

USSSA Playing History

Why do you like the game of softball?
Softball fuels my competitiveness and I enjoy the fast paced nature of the game.   I also like the relationships that are formed not only with my teammates but fellow softball players as well.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Andy Purcell, Scott Brown, Rusty Baumgardner, Brett Helmer, Brian Wegman, Don Dedonatis to just name a few.

What position do you play?
Pitcher

What is your nickname?
Vitz

Where do you call home?
Oakdale - Minnesota

What do you do for a living?
I'm a Revenue Tax Specialist for the Minnesota Department of Revenue.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
I played baseball in High School and also during my first year of college at the University of St. Thomas.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I formed my own "D" team with friends during my junior year of college and played two years of D ball.   We were bumped to "C" in 2007 and after winning USSSA "C" Worlds in 2008, I was picked up with other Minnesota players to form - Showcase/All-American Restoration/Worth and we played a Conference Schedule in 2009.   Last year I played for EWS/Shirts and Logos out of Illinois.

What batting grip do you use? What ounce bat? What was your favorite bat of alltime?
I use a standard grip but am moving towards using a slight overlap.   I swing a 27 oz bat and I don't have an all-time favorite bat.

What is your favorite sports team?
New England Patriots for Football and Minnesota Twins for Baseball.   I do enjoy watching NBA basketball but don't have a favorite team.

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
I like all three of the main sports - Football, Baseball and Basketball.

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
Too many to name but the main one is doing the same batting routine prior to going to at bat and in batting practice.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
Winning 2008 USSSA C Worlds and winning 2010 A Conference Championships as a B team.

Is slowpitch softball a sport or a game?
I believe it's a sport because you have to train and work on your game to get better.   Plus, I feel that if there are different levels that a player can strive to achieve that also makes it a sport.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
I would like to see bat testing done prior to every Conference Tournament  just like they do at the Major World Series (the garbage bins) but other than that I don't mind the way that upper level ball is currently constructed.   Whoever you take the field against show up to play and try to beat them.   If they beat you on that day, tip your cap to them and try to get them the next time around.

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
Dudley

Who are you playing with in 2011?
I'm playing with Combat/Laser Vision/Down2Earth in 2011.
