Who are you playing with in 2015?
Peak/Rockland LLC

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
SS, MI, 2B, Utility. I can play a little outfield if need be.

SS and 2B are my best dominant positions.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
My father! Hands down. Growing up at the fields and tournaments in Minnesota, always looking up to the pops as the best!

Why do you like the game of softball?
Competition! Softball is growing big, and I love playing competitive ball.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
Pat Farrell. Give that guy any bat. Composite or aluminum he will hit gas all day long.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Gessell or Gess. Last name.

What is your height and weight?
6'0 196

Where do you call home?
I have lived in Colorado Springs the last 5 years. But still call Minnesota home.

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
With the family and family friends relaxing and barbecuing. Maybe mix in some purple dragons!

What do you do for a living?
Insurance Restoration-insurance Adjusting

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Baseball-Hockey-Football.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I played with ASA Nordkap team in 2011-12. Charlie coach from Peak has given me the opportunity to play conference softball. I got to give Zach Nelson AKA "Nelly" from Minnesota credit. He got me on the first C teams Hoffman09, Outpost10, I got to see a lot of good softball. Thank you brother.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
Conference ball is always fast pace and super competitive. Everyone is bigger faster or stronger. You can't come off the couch and play a full season of conference level softball.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
Not really. Everyone has there own unique weird way of playing the game.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
I have played a lot of great games and many great plays. Everyone one of them stick out to me.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
Ekaterina my wife. Being humble about me traveling playing the game I love. I wouldn't be able to play at a high level if the home front wasn't in good shape.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
always GO HARD! Travel to big tournaments at any opportunity.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
A slight overlap. 26-27 end load.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Play in hockey tournaments as much as I can. Nothing better than 5-6 games a weekend of hockey. Then BP on Sunday's at the Air Force Academy.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Minnesota Wild-Minnesota Vikings. Although I live in Colorado I am still all Minnesota Fan.

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
batters box has to be clean.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
Poison and that wiz k guy!

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
Find a way for it to be more affordable.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Firemans in Minnesota. awesome atmosphere all the way around.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Espn complex Disney.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Twin peaks.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
a teammate and I both looked at each other and said BY FELICA and the same time. Right before nordquest put it too the moon.

Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
I am not that tough when the wife is around. I sing in the shower. Ha!

What was your favorite sports related gift you have ever given or received?
Tournament MVP in hockey. Game winning hat trick goal.

    hell of a ball player. above average stick and a lock down defender. good teammate and a fun guy. give him some purple dragons, and watch him do the dougie

    Nate G is a gamer. Plays the game hard and right. Hits to the situation and gets the job done. Be a great asset to any team.
