2014 Interview:

Why do you like the game of softball?
Being out on the field and competing.  Also playing you get to meet a lot of new people.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
I cannot pick-out one particular player.  I will say I watched Dennis Rulli play the last two years at worlds and he is a hitting machine.  He can put the ball anywhere and pick it on the field.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
AJ Montano has some of the best hands I have seen and is fearless.  Eli Aguilar can play the OF with the best of them and is a pure hitter.  Matt Fox flat out hits some of the hardest line-drives I have seen.

What is your nickname in softball?
I do not have one (at least that I know of). lol

What is your height and weight?
6'3 and 220lbs.

Where do you call home?
Murrieta, CA

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
I am big in to boating so I spend alot of time out in Lake Havasu and spend all my time with my wife (Holly) and my 2 year old daughter (Rylan).

What do you do for a living?
I do a few things.  Main business is a Freight Broker. New business I just started is a Tax Review and Resolutions Company and I also do private baseball catcher and hitting lessons.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Yes I played High School baseball, College baseball at Cal State Fullerton.  1995 was my freshman year we won the College World Series.  I was drafted in the 11th round by the Kansas City Royals in 1996 and played 3 years with them.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I got started in I think 2008 or 09.  A buddy kept asking me to play in a league at his church.  I finally gave in! Wish I would of started sooner.  As for upper level I played C's the last two seasons with a team here in SoCal called Ski's Diner.  This will be my first year at the upper level.  Johnny Gallegos saw me play and asked me to come out and play with O.C. Swats.

What was the best advice you were ever given?
Work hard and dedicate yourself and never doubt yourself.  Keep pushing hard and no matter how many times you get knocked down get back up.  I have always put 100% into anything I do.  This way I know that if it does not work out I can lay my head on the pillow at night knowing I did all I could do.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Tough question because I myself am just breaking in, but pretty much I go back to the previous answer I gave above.  As for practice go out and hit and hit and play hard.  Even at league night make the best of the AB's you get and work on things.  Also be a sponge and listen to others who have been there and ask questions!

What position do you play?
I play 1B…I can also play 3B, but 1B is my position

What batting grip do you use?
Lower hand off the handle and I overlap the pinky and wring finger.

What ounce bat do you use?
I like 27oz End-load

What do you do in the off-season to prepare for the next softball season?
I lift weights at least 5 times a week as well do cardio and play one night of league.  I usually will get 3-4 games in at league night.

What is your favorite sports team?
Los Angeles Dodgers, but I must say I like all baseball teams!

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
I enjoy playing golf.

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I have a couple, but the main one is I do the same thing every AB. I fix up the box and I draw an X with a dot out in front of the plate (do not really know why)  been doing it since I was in HS.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
Hate to sound boring, but I really do not have one.  I can say off the field meeting so many new teammates and becoming friends with them.  Without softball I would not have some of the friends I do today.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
I like all types of music, but I would say something country.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
From what I can see it looks good to me.  Maybe after I play a full season I will be able to make a suggestion, but for now I see no issues.

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
I have to say Toys4Tots as well any charity tournament I can play in because I know being there and playing we are all helping somebody out!

What is the best softball field you have played at and why?
I do not have one as of yet.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Anywhere that is open! lol

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
I wish I had one, but I don't.
