2015 Interview

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
OF/C/1B. Played CF a long time ago in college. Looking to get back into the OF after recently dropping a few LBS. I moved myself into the infield after too many 100 degree outfield games in Texas. More of a corner outfield spot these days. Stick allows me to C if need be.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Too many to name. I like the guys who can hit. Connell,Moyer,Baker,Flip

Why do you like the game of softball?
Compete, Win, Friendships, People, Staying Active, love of the game

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
I'm gonna pick a local Houston guy and say Billy Maggard. Watched him play for B/C teams around Houston and finally got a shot in the Conference and he has showed why alot more guys from Houston should get a chance. Works hard at it and plays the game with passion.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Pav or P.A.V.
It's just short for my last name "Pavlich"

What is your height and weight?
5'8" 225

Where do you call home?
Houston, Texas

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Spending time with my wife and two kids.

What do you do for a living?
Project Supervisor at Coorstek

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Yes baseball. Actually made USA today's All-American team back in 1996. Played  baseball at Blinn JC then moved onto Lousiana-Lafayette. Also played in the Cape Cod League in 2001-2002

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I got my start with Sergio Martinez and Curtis Day.  I met Sergio playing baseball and he played for a "B" team in Houston "TPS/Ameritek" and said i should come out and give softball a try.Curtis Day had a "B" team as well "Houston Thunder".

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
First difference I noticed was the quality of umpires. Second thing would be the quality of play. More people playing the game the right way and to a standard.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
Actually everytime i see "Wilks" from Buzini hit. Built similar

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
I would say by FAR would be beating Resmondo with Da Bomb/Miken/Allout at the TEXAS LEGENDS major a couple years ago. I thnk it was the first time in a long time that a "B" team had beat at Major team. The one play that stinks is BJ FULK leaving the game after I hit a ball that took a bad hop off his head.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
My Father. He gave me the mentality I have today.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Work on your game. Listen to the advice guys who have done it give when they talk. Always move up a level if you have the opportunity and stay away from buddy ball.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
One pinky off

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
In Texas it seems like softball never ends because of the weather. Most upper level players in Texas usually stay active all year round. The tournaments never end.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Houston=Texans,Rockets,Astros

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Texas Legends Major because the big teams show up and you get a chance to compete against the best.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
I would say the Cajun Conference tournament in Louisiana. Both complexes were really nice with brand new field turf. Texas Legends on a Friday night is always a good look.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
I saw Argen Dodds hit with nothing but sliding shorts and shoes on one year at Budfest. That was funny!!

Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
I have a few albums on ITunes

Pav is a great guy and one hell of a ball player. I have played against him plenty of times and dude can flat out hit. I really think he would be a great pick up for any team. I hope you get that chance to show other ppl what you got and help open the door for other Texas players like these guys have Billy M, Ben Dunn,Chris Potts and Marcus T.
