2014 Interview

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
Pitcher

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
I would have to say Dennis Rulli…love the way he approaches his at bats

Why do you like the game of softball?
Softball is a great way to keep the competitive juices flowing.  For me, it is also a way to pay tribute to my uncle who passed away back in 2002.  The best part of softball is that most weekends my dad comes out to watch me play and we get to share the experiences together.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
"Mills"  It was originally a nickname that my uncle had and when he passed away the torch was passed to me.  Bobby Miller managed some of the best upper teams in Cleveland in the 90s and early 2000s

What is your height and weight?
5'10" 175Lbs

Where do you call home?
Columbus, Ohio but I spent the first 28 years of my life in Cleveland.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
Started playing league ball when I was 19, then D level ball a year later.  In 2004, my first ever world tournament was the ISA D world in Nashville.  We won it and I got my first ring.  I didn't appreciate just what an accomplishment that was at the time.  I have been playing D and C level ball since and midway through 2012 I joined Cooper/Yuengling/Easton.  We won the 2013 USSSA C Worlds and now I will be joining Cash House in the conference for 2014.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
As a pitcher, at the conference level, you cannot take any pitches off.  You must work hard on every pitch to every batter, otherwise you will get drilled.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
Winning the 2013 USSSA C Worlds last year would have to be the highlight for me.  When I won my first ring in 2004 my dad was not on the trip, but this time he was.  There was no better feeling than to share that with him, he's my best friend.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Become a student of the game, work on the mental aspect of the game as much as the physical side of it.  Lots of guys have talent but the intelligent ones reach the next level.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
I am an Ohio born die hard Michigan Wolverines fan.  I also love my hometown Cleveland Browns even though they will never win anything.

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I always write my uncle's initials in the dirt before every at bat.  B.M.  Miss you every day Bobby!!

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
Red Rider "Lunatic Fringe"

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Meadville, PA Cash Tourney….just a lot of great memories playing with some of my best friends other the years.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
I really like the fields in Salem, Virginia.
