I will say Ethan Maresh who plays with me in TMT, the kid smashes and solid defense.

Don't really have one but I'm known as Nelly because a lot of people can't pronounce my name right.

I played baseball in high school, college and Pro.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I started playing E and got banned the very same date I started because of my talent, so the director of the league got me in contact with a D team that I end up playing 2 tournaments for, one of the guys was a C ball player and he got me hook up with a C team in and now here I am.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
I honestly have to say the consistency of hitters and the pitches are way better.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
No not really.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
There is a tournament in Korea every year is called " PAC-WIDE " it's an ASA MILITARY related event, well that's when I first faced my first conference pitcher REGGIE MYERS, this pitcher was clowning almost every batter that faced him, so here I am stepping into the batters box and he tells me I am not gonna even reach first base on him, well i end up hitting the ball over a house and the field was 320 on the corners plus the road and the front yard, it landed behind the house… I was so happy I did not know whether to jump of happiness or to stay serious like I was aiming for that bomb lol

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
I would have to say TIM FERGUSON. He taught me almost everything I know about the game.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Stay humble and always play your heart out.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
1 finger over lap and I use ether a 27 or 28 depends on how I'm feeling that day.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
A lot of weight lifting and tons of BP.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Yankees all the way lol

I actually don't have any.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
It would be a salsa straight from my island Puerto Rico.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Toys 4 tots… I always take like 8-10 toys, I love the cost and what it's for.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Big league dreams in Mansfield and league city.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
I was pitching in a tournament and I had a first base that was around 370 pounds, the batter hits a back side and he dove as I'm running to first I yelling at him to toss it over, well he just looks at me and yells at me NO, next thing you know he rolled over like twice to tag the base, the whole field even the fans started laughing and clapping, I was laughing to the point where I was crying and out of breath.

Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
I'm terrified of needles but yet I'm full of tattoos.

What was your favorite sports related gift you have ever given or received?
The best gift I have ever given to somebody would be very expensive bat, and the best gift sports related that I've ever got was a BAT, GLOVE and a roller bag.

  1. Great young talent. Jonell ‘Nelly’ Rosa is a solid consistent hitter who continues to learn the game. There is a lot of room for growth, all he needs is the right team to open the door.

  2. Javier Gonzalez says:

He recently started playing on TMT with us and the guy knocks the crap out the ball. Also for him being that big he is fast. Great guy to have on the team and always stays positive.

  3. Richard Salazar says:

This kid here has game.. Up and coming with alot of power.. both backside and pulling the ball.. he just needs his shot and he will prove his talents.. good luck Nelly.. I can vouch for this guy.

  4. Ethan Maresh says:

Been playing with Nelly for over a year now. All honesty one of the hardest hitting guys I’ve ever played with. Has a naturally beautiful swing and can crush the ball in any direction. Very quick on his feet always has a good attitude, pushes others to be better and a hard worker. Learns more and more with guidance and he will compete with any player out there with a good coach and mentor. Give him a shot a guarantee he produces… I’ll vouche for him any day.

  5. Chad Baldini says:

Very humbled guy. Loaded with lots of talent and plays with a killer instinct. Given the chance he could play with anyone on any day. Plus he is a class act on and off the field..

  6. Clarence Simpson says:

Played a couple tournaments with Nelly, and right away saw the power and bat control everyone talked about. What impressed me was his ability to play numerous positions defensively, and how humble he was. The way he stayed level headed, talked with everyone No matter if he knew them or not, and watching him talk with some of the other lefties and work with them on their swing. That impressed me the most. Softball is about helping the guys around you get better. Nelly always has a way of picking guys up and getting the best out of them. It’s always positive coming from him. Everyone that’s ever played with him know what he can do at the plate, but It’s all the other things that he does that will take him far in this sport. Good luck Nelly, the guys at Fort Hood are proud of you!

  7. Art Gonzalez says:

This guy has the talent to make into top level. Its a privilege to have him a part of TMT during our growth to become a better team. His ambitions are just like mine and that is to reach the highest level possible. He has the drive to play where you need him and a really good team player. Its a privilege to have him with us and be looking for his showcase soon (lol) as we will try and play several conference events throughout 2015 and maybe Lord Willing be able to create something special. STAY MOTIVATED

  8. Tim Ferguson says:

Nelly it was a pleasure and honor to coach and play with you. Stay humble and always stride to get better. You are one of the best hitters I’ve ever played with in this game. I love your killer instinct with the game and you know my Motto ” I’m always teaching”. I’m truly waiting to see you play conf ball you will excel with any team that gives you a chance. Fast, Powerful, and always thinking about the game loved that about you as well. People here in Japan still mentioning you over here about how you played the game and saying he could really hit. Stay humble my bro and things will come. For the record I didn’t weight 370 when my famous roll happen around 315….. Lol…. And now I’m down to 280 and still teaching…

  9. all this guy needs is a chance. I Played against and with a few conference guys and nelly is right with them or better. Very humble and puts in work. No doubt he will be at the next level soon. Very underrated.

I got introduced to Nelly over a year ago. All honesty one of the hardest hitting guys I’ve ever played with. He has a beautiful swing and can crush the ball to all fields. To be that big he is very quick on his feet. U still aren’t faster than me bro..(inside joke) He always has a good attitude and pushes others to be better and work hard. I play league and co ed with Nelly and he is always helping others with the game. Thanks for pushing me to improve and letting me know what u see that I can work on. He will help any team that picks him up, all he needs is a shot. Good luck this year bro.

  12. JW says:

I once saw Nelly wrestle a bear with his bear hands, then hypnotized a king cobra by simply looking at him.

  13. PA says:

Big Nelly the dude can straight smash and can go any where, I seen the dude go back side, middle and blasting bombs and for how big he is he is pretty fast. ALLOUT definitely gained a quality player here.
