2015 Interview

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
Inf or OF,  Looks like back to CF this year after a 3 year 3rd base hiatus.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Hitting: Bryson Baker you don't get him out, he gets himself out by mistake.
Power: Jeff Wallace, Chris Larsen, Scott Kirby
Defense: Kevin Bazat and DD3  Baz is just annoying up the middle and DD3 makes every play he gets to.
Pitching: Andy Purcell and Billy Messina, Andy is just good and Billy's knuckleball defy's the laws of gravity.
Overall: Brian Wegman he can do everything good

Why do you like the game of softball?
Competitiveness, the guys you meet along the way.  I mean we get to travel around the country and play a game, what could be better?

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
Power: Neil Haglund and Dale Brungardt: they NEVER get cheated at the plate
Hitting: Brian Lipman great top hand swing with power
Fielding: Steven Lloyd: I know he's been around but he's still wicked young And Nick Manganaro as long as he doesn't cramp up from the heat.
Overall:  Ryan Parfitt and Cory Large are two young guys who are gonna be real good

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Sour Skittles from the Dirty/Demarini guys    I guess they thought I was always angry. They don't realize it's a New York thing.

What is your height and weight?
6'3 230lbs

Where do you call home?
NY

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
GOLF !!!!!!! or at the Gun Range.

What do you do for a living?
Independant Contractor

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
HS was Football, Basketball and Baseball
College was Football and Baseball
Played a few years of Semi-pro Football

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
Played fro BudLight/TPS n 09'   Thanks to my buddy Willie Allen.   Before that I mostly played Law Enforcement Softball.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
Pitching:  Non-conference guys have no idea what good pitching is until they play against the best.   I love when these Sandbaggers always tell me they could hit 700 in conference ball if they got the chance.  I always say "they don't throw four seamers in conference"  Well actually Biscuit does sometimes.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
I'd like to think I'm a really really poor man's version of Wegs.  I can play anywhere, and hit for power or avg.  I'm just not as good as him.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
Easy one: Winning A worlds in 2012 with the R&M guys.  The best TEAM I ever played on.  Every guy fought for each other and the chemistry we had on the field was amazing.
Best Picture was one DW took of me under a fog in Nashville back in 2011 that was an interesting game if the ball went up 50 ft it disappeared you had to guess where it would reenter

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Take advantage of every chance you get, you never know who's watching.  And don't beat your chest on how good you are before you earn the respect of the game and the guys who have been doing it longer and better.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
two finger overlap 28 oz

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
I play golf and go to the gym.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Football i'm really just a football player who can play softball a little.
And i'm a diehard Philadelphia Eagles Fan

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
The way I enter the batters box,  it drives Travis Clark nuts.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
Kyoto by Skrillex or anything Country.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
Use the hot dot that they use in Cincy in the losers bracket, its a deader ball and doesn't fly like the rocket balls we use.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Any L.E. tournament and we have a few here in NY that are fun in October and November.
The Hamptons Classic in August it was actually written about in Softball Mag. last year.
Plus my friend just started a Charity Tournament in honor of his daughter who is battling a disease "Do it for Dobee" Tournament

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Fortune Road has the best dimesnions for this level, but with the stadium ball Disney or Columbus fields are nice.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Chick Fil-A – we don't have any around here.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
A guy hit middle on a pitcher and he never even saw the ball, he just stood there for 5 minutes finally the ump asked him if he was ok to pitch, he said I don't know I just peed myself.

Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
I like cats.

What was your favorite sports related gift you have ever given or received?
Bats from my buddy in the Northwest.
