Who are you managing/sponsoring in 2016 and what teams have you been with in the past?
Smash it
Playing with combat
Past teams sponsored
smash it
Precision Recovery
Compound Athletics
3 local teams

Why do you like the game of softball?
Competitive and gives me a reason to get in shape.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen (by decade if possible)?
As a young player I was amazed by Randall Boone, Rusty B, and Dal Beggs.
Before those guys it was Ricky Huggins being im from savannah ga. Gene Warren was good also.
Now Purcell is crazy good and Conny kills it.

Where do you call home?
Lemont, IL

What do you do for a living?
Try to own everything I can

What is your softball background as a player?
Played D forever. Wanted to play major but was not good enough at the position I was playing (CF). No arm. So changed positions and started pitching. Still was not good enough so I paid my way into conference by sponsoring a team. Then 3,000 pitches a week to get better. Amazing that after all that practice I still suck.

What is your teams goal for 2016?
Easy. Win every game we play.

Where do you look for talent?
Lower levels. No entitlement and they are grateful.

How do you evaluate players?
I ask Travis Clark. If he says they are good I don't pick them up and keep looking.

What is your favorite sports team?
UGA Bulldawgs

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
if we win our first game I have the same morning routine for the next day.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
Walking the last two batters to start the 8th inning in the conference championship. Who cares about the successes.

What improvement/changes would you like to see in upper level softball that could bring in more sponsors?
Divide into divisions. N, S, E, W. Just like baseball.

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
Boones and toys for tots Palm springs

Who was the best team in softball history?
Was not watching softball when RS and Steels were playing so I have to say ressy. Just pick one of their last 10 championship seasons.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
My friend Adrian was playing LF. I was in Center. We were losing 26-8. The umpire called time because Adrain had taken his shirt off to get a tan. The umpire asked him what he was doing. He said we are getting our pants beat off of us so I might as well take my shirt off too. That was in a USSSA national tourney.

Tell us something about you that most would never know?
I use to have a really bad temper until I did MMA and got choked out by a girl.

What is your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
With my wife and two girls.

What advice can you give a young player who is trying to move to the upper level?
Play hard. Take BP with upper level players and play fun tourneys with them. Most importantly be humble.

95% of the softball world knows Wilk, but those of you that don’t, get to know him. Your life will change with the first conversation.

  2. BL#3 says:

One of the three amazing sponsors that I have had the opportunity to play for. Being around him and playing for him has definitely impacted my life for the better on and off the field. He and his family are truly awesome people.

  3. 57 says:

Nobody dedicates themselves or works harder on his game than Wilk. Honored to call him a teammate, friend, and brother. There is no doubt he will kill it with Combat in 2016.

Just now saw this. Hilarious! Wilk is one of the few people in softball who really know the game and at the same time is still willing to listen and learn. Great player. Better person. Phenominal sponsor.
