Interview conducted on 10/12/2016

Who are you playing with in 2017?
Free agent/ email: tneverett36@gmail.com

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
Play all parts of the outfield and played some middle last year as well.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Andy Purcell hands down amazes me at what he does on the mound and even steps up to the plate and is one of the best hitters in the game.

Why do you like the game of softball?
I grew up around the game of softball. My entire family played and has a couple of family member in the TEXAS USSSA HOF.  So eventually it grew on me! Softball give me that drive that I had when I played pro baseball. The competitiveness that comes with playing conference reminds me of playing pro baseball. Everything counts every at bat every play it all counts. Then to travel to all of the different places and meet new people from all over is a plus as well!

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
There are a few to name! My buddy Reno Malay is one of the best shortstops in my eyes in the country. Picks and and everything and hits missles all over the field! But there is so much talent! To name a few Mike Williams, Tori Means, Charlie Lenhard, Jake Runte, Larry Juarez (awesome pitcher), Brian Bochannon"pocket",

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Have a few but the main one would have to be "Willy or E-Dub"

Willy would be from my Lastname Williams
And E-Dub would be my initials E-W "

What is your height and weight?
5'11 235 currently

Where do you call home?
Austin, TEXAS

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
On an off weekend would be hanging out with some of my buddies I'll more than likely be on the barbeque pit smoking ribs and anything else that can be cooked chillin watching sports!

What do you do for a living?
Work for the main Electrical Company provider in the city of Austin called Austin Energy!

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
I played baseball in high school. Signed to the University of Texas on a full ride for baseball but was the second pick of the second round in the MLB draft in 2009 to the San Diego padres so I decided to take that route!

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I started out playing around in TEXAS and played around and in front of some conference guys like LC Watson, Lyf Nimmo, Jeremy Isenhower, and Andrew Collins and a few other and they helped push my name out and got me in front of big guys and sponsors to get me picked up on the conference level.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
Think the biggest difference or "surprise" would be that every team is good! It's 50/50 on who will win 95% of the time. I played some crazy games in the dual last year was the first thing I noticed! Every game will be hard! Pitching is better and everyone can hit!

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
I'm not sure think it would be more of Willard O'Neal who retired this past year. He was fast as hell and could bat in any position in the lines up! Could be a base hitter for average and even power hit if needed!

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
I mean winning the two BSC Worlds with my Pace Family to me are pretty big deals to me.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
As far as softball there are three guys who I always go to when it comes to my game! All three from Texas and played conference ball. One is my cousin Cedric Allen. Another is Willard "Will" O'Neal. And last Alfred "Tuck" Hinton. These three were my favorite lefty hitting and they tought me a lot about the game!

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Well for one make sure you're ready. You can get hurt playing in upper ball these balls and bats are no joke! But main thing is put in work cause just stepping on the field doesn't work it's not beer league. There's politics involved you don't perform you get axed so make sure your effort is consistent and stick with your routine!

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
I take of the original grin then I put one layer of tape on the handle . I like it as thin as possible! I swing a 27oz bat!

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
I workout all year so that remains the same and I hit off the T and take live BP as well! Play in small tournaments to keep timing as well!

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
I would say my favorite sports team would be the TEXAS Rangers. I really don't watch to many other sports! I'm a band wagon fan of the Golden State Warriors and NFL if I had to choose a team would be the cowboys!

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I never step on the base lines going on and off the field! And before every at bat I always step on home plate.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
Here I go by Mystikal

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
Just to stay on top of the shaved bats being used in conference ball. There not needed. Keep player safety at the top of the list.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
My favorite non world tournament would be any BSC softball tournament! Every tournament is a big party/ family reunion you can't beat the atmosphere when your at the park! The ball is always competitive the music is good, food is good and there are people everywhere!

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
I would say the turf field in Myrtle Beach!

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Well I'm a TEXAS guy! So you could never go wrong with Whataburger!

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
Wasn't on the field but think one of the funniest softball things I've seen is when Tory Means of PrimeTime struck out and they made that video of the guy who always screams "got eeeem" after the third strike called.  I thought that was pretty funny!

Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
Why would I tell you if I don't want everyone to know? lol

What was your favorite sports related gift you have ever given or received?
Probably my Rawlings All American award I got while in high school! Or me getting drafted in the MLB Draft!
