2011 Interview below

Why do you like the game of softball?
It gives me a break from the work week as well as an outlet to relieve stress.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen?
Best Homerun Hitters Tim Cocco and Greg Connell.   But the best true all around player i've ever played with or against is Jason Kendrick. In 2009 Jason came up to play in the SSAA B Winter World with our team.   He lead off the first game
with a shot up the middle and slides head first into 2nd.   Its 25 degrees, 9am, and January.  (How many 40 yr olds you know that'll do that on a pick up team in those conditions?)

Where do you call home?
Baxley, Georgia

What do you do for a living?
I own a utility trailer company, Down 2 Earth Trailers, and a sporting goods business, Down 2 Earth Sports.

What is your softball background as a player?
I have played softball for 17 years.   Started out at the lowest level getting my eyes beat out every weekend and praying we made it "till the lights come on".

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
Started out playing in local tournaments in 1993.   Then as a Senior in 95, Carl Rose became our recreation director (i had no clue this other softball world existed until then).   I spent about the last 10 years playing and sponsoring C
teams in Georgia.   After playing in many conference tournaments over the last 2 years and competing against the best teams in the country, we are hooked!  This year will be our first year joining the USSSA Conference.

Who are you managing/sponsoring in 2011?
Down 2 Earth Sports.com/Worth

What does your roster look like?
Andrew Dubberly, Brandon Connell, Carlton Griffin, Jesse Scott, Johnathon Scott,
John Canceran, Larkin Grant, Lee Payne, Matt Tindell, Sean Greer, Shaun Bridger,
Todd Hilton.

What is your teams goal for 2011?
Win a B World Championship.

Where do you look for talent?
The best places to find talent is in your own backyard.

What is more important, talent or attitude?
I'll take a guy that is a team players and just a genuine good guy over the best "talent' player in the world.

How do you evaluate players?
Power, Avg, Glove.  It all plays a part.  Then you have me……..I write the check, so im in.

What is your favorite sports team?
Georgia Bulldogs

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
College Football as a team sport, but Deer hunting is my passion.

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
Don't say the "F" word right before we pray!  (he might not hear that prayer)

What is your most memorable softball moment?
All the times that I got to take the field with the late JD Burgstiener!   He had more influence on me as a softball player than anyone else.

Is slow pitch softball a sport or a game?
Both

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make to bring in more sponsors?
I think the exposure that slowpitch got on ESPN this past year with the battle border game was priceless.   If we could get more TV exposure i believe the sport would grow and with that, the sponsors would come.

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
Boone's and The Rose.   Both are unlimited Homerun tournaments.

What can be done to improve the Conference Championships?
This year will be my first.

Is the game better or worse with homerun limits and why?
I like unlimited homeruns.   It is what softball was meant to be.  That's why most people list the smokey as there favorite tournament.   Also there this more fans at that tournament than any other.   Think about it. Homeruns are what people come
to see.

Who was the best team in softball history?
Well since I've been playing, it would have to be Resmondo.   I'm only 33 and they have been dominating for the last decade.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
A fourwheeler drive across the outfield in the middle of a game.   And I'm sure that's just one of many on the list for that tournament. (Boone"s)
