Curtis Cornett

USSSA Playing History

Who are you playing with in 2015?
3rd Street/Hubs Pub/Louisville Slugger

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
SS, 2b, MF. Best I'd say is MF

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
I'd say Purcell, Steven Lloyd, and  Greg Connell.

Why do you like the game of softball?
It's very competitive and I loved it coming from baseball. I've had the opportunity to meet some good people and want to play until I can't any longer.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
I'm pretty impressed with Brian Zirkle and Lee Payne. Big hitters, I'd say Jason Magnum. One player who's a sleeper is Freddie from bad draw.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Haven't gotten 1 yet

What is your height and weight?
6'0 180

Where do you call home?
Home will always be Woodstock, GA

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Sleeping, I could go pro at it. I enjoy some fishing,  and family time.

What do you do for a living?
Enterprise Rent A Car

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Baseball and basketball in high school. Baseball In college.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
worked for the parks and rec and filled in during league ball. Played some E ball  initially and won an E world. The next season, Twinkle gave me a shot @ the end of the year. and I started making some connections. Got hooked up with Donnie Munford and Jason Magnum last year and here I am

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
Better pitching, everyone's good vs only a few players.. not as much immature shit talkin

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
I compare myself to Bazat and Lloyd. Being an infielder, I look up to them and feel my style is very similar to theirs.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
I'm still new to conference, haven't had a whole lot yet. We won some smaller "majors" with ASP. I got all tourny at the Arkansas Major. All tourny at WSL this year. Not a big bragger on myself.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
Twinky, Greg Milsaps, Jason Magnum, Donnie Munford, Carlton Griffin, Josh Wiggs, and Chad Folsum, and Danny Evans have all helped me so far. Good to always have guys that aren't selfish that will help.  Not really a single person lol

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Play hard, because you never know who's watching. Present and conduct yourself professionally. Be a great teammate. Do NOT run that mouth.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Baseball grip

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Hit, condition, do them hand drills to stay polished in the IF of course! Anything I can to get better at the conference level. Big difference than just going to hit bp

Change batting gloves up from time to time.  I have a few stretches I do before every AB.

Big league dreams with all the replica fields was legit. Disney tops them all.

I was introduced to the cheese steak place in orlando by fortune road…Best I've had.  Can't ever go wrong with good olé chicken fil a

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
Greg Milsaps getting run over at Home in the Rome Braves tourny. He absolutely freaked out, tried to kick the guy while he was on his back. Funny as hell

Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
I wear a mask in the IF lol no one will ever know.  Jk. I was proud to get my MBA. Not many know about that

What was your favorite sports related gift you have ever given or received?
Defensive MVP at C world 2013. World championship at age 17 when me and Jason Heyward went back to back bombs to win it
