USSSA Major Watch List Player

2014 Interview

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
Outfield/Infield…kind of.  Centerfield is my best position

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
I can't pick one because there are so many great players I have had the privilege to watch.

Why do you like the game of softball?
I really enjoy the game of softball because of the friendships and competition.  I have gained a lot of great friends from the game of softball.  I always enjoy competing in a sport I enjoy while playing with guys I enjoy being around.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
I don't have one.

What is your height and weight?
6'4" 215lbs

Where do you call home?
St. Louis, MO

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
With family and friends on the lake or at St. Louis Cardinals games

What do you do for a living?
I'm a traveling Personal Trainer & a Sports Performance Director for athletes.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
High School: Football, Basketball, and Baseball
College: Baseball, and Basketball
Pro: Drafted by Colorado Rockies in 2001

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I had a childhood friend of mine bug me for years to play with him on a traveling team and about 4 years ago I took "the plunge".  I was on a team that played in bigger tournaments over the last 2 years which got us playing in front of a lot of different people.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
The biggest difference to me is the consistency of play.  Conference play is full of great teams with great players.  It seems like in conference play you are always going to get the teams best and you have to give your best.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
I don't know about that.  I'll leave that to everyone else to judge but I hope it is someone who plays the game the right way and everyone would want to play with.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
I would say this weekend at Space City Houston Major I was apart of a triple play that was pretty exciting.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
My hitting coach in college had a huge impact on the way I approach the game of baseball.  I now take that attitude and approach to the game of softball.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Work hard at being consistent game in and game out.  Try to challenge yourself by playing against and with the best players you can.  Always enjoy the game and play it the right way!

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
2 finger overlap & 27 oz enloaded

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
workout, work on speed & flexibility, take BP & play catch

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Denver Broncos & St. Louis Cardinals. Football & Baseball

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
No

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
I think Disney's World Wide Sports has to be the nicest set up and complex.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Buffalo Wild Wings. 🙂

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
Once saw teammate run after a line drive in the right-center gap only to take it off the chest instead of use his glove to try and catch it. On accident of course…sorry Trey! 🙂

Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
I played 2 years of Arena Football where I was a quarterback.

What was your favorite sports related gift you have ever given or received?
I love collecting sports memorabilia so this is hard but when I was drafted by the Colorado Rockies my grandma "Happy" got Todd Helton to sign a baseball and write me a good luck message.  Pretty special to me.
