2016 Interview

Why do you like the game of softball?
I am extremely competitive. It allows me to still go out, play a sport, and compete.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Old school-Ricky Huggins and Randall Boone. In the game today, it would have to be Wegman and Connell.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
I'm going to have to go with a guy I have see play a ton. Evan Jarman. Kid can flat out go get it in the outfield and  has one of the better arms I have seen in a long time. He hits it great
too. Goes to all parts of the field with power and for average.

What is your nickname in softball?
Have a few I guess. At home my buddies call me Big Fitness. Some call me C-Mac and others Big Lefty. Don't really care what they call me just as long as they call me to play.

What is your height and weight?
 6'4"  265lbs.

Where do you call home?
 Effingham, Georgia

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Hanging out with friends and family or watching my girlfriend play ball.

What do you do for a living?
Durable Medical Equipment Tech. In other words I fit patients with orthopedic braces and splints.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
I played football, basketball, and baseball in high school. Played baseball in college. Also played Arena football.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
Picked up with some local friends in league after college. Got asked to play "C" ball on the weekends in Tennessee. From there I played 2 seasons in the Conference. First year I played a few tournaments with Wisconsin Worth and the next year a few with Wheelhouse/Reebok.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
The pitching. Everything those guys do has a purpose. I learned you have to be more patient.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
To work when nobody is looking. It will payoff on the field and then people will notice. Also network and be eager to learn. Most upper level players will share their knowledge.

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
Infield and right field. Being a lefty first base is my natural and best position.

What batting grip do you use?
Pinky and ring finger off the knob and overlap my top hand pinky.

What ounce bat do you use?
 28oz.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Workout, run, and take BP. Also play in as many pick up tournaments as I can. This off season I will be working hard on pitching.

What is your favorite sports team?
 University of Georgia Bulldogs

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
 Football

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
One practice swing, tip my hat and spit before I step in the box.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
Playing in the Smoky on Friday nights. All the locals are there and the atmosphere is great.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
 Pastor Troy-Vice Versa

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
I like it the way it is…maybe more stadium tournaments during the season

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
The Smoky, The Mullet, and Boone's

What is the best softball field you have played at and why?
The stadium at Disney. The field there is just so well taken care of.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Usually it's the closest place because I'm starving.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
My buddy Mike Calahan. He wears shorts when he plays and apparently goes "commando". We were playing a charity pick up tournament back home and he dives for a ball at 3rd. Shorts slide down and there it is…a full moon at 2 in the afternoon. Best part is he gets up and throws the guy out at first before he fixes his shorts. He might have been drinking a little that day haha.

I had the pleasure of being this guys teammate. Absolutely a great ball player and a very versatile hitter to be so big. He can hit one 400 one swing and slap it backside down 3rd base line and leg out a stand up double the next. Great dude and great teammate.
