Major Watch List

2011 Interview

Why do you like the game of softball?
It allows me to still play a game that I enjoy and be able to compete against the very best each weekend.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
I've had the opportunity to play with some very good ball players, but from my position (pitcher) I would have to say Andy Purcell is the best – he can control the game himself at times.

Where do you call home?
Orting , Washington

What do you do for a living?
Engineering Field Manager for T-Mobile

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
High School- yes (Hockey / baseball) / College – Some of both also

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I had played at the B level for many years prior to 2005, but during that year Coop called and gave me an opportunity to play with Team Combat/Kluever Snap-On.   I've been playing "upper level" ever since.

What batting grip do you use?
I have my pinkie off the bottom of the bat.

What is your favorite sports team?
Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers

What is your favorite sport other than softball?
Hockey

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I try not to get hit (not really a superstition more a reality)…I really don't have any… I try to stay away from superstitions.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
I actually have a couple.   After being double dipped 3 years ago for 'A' Worlds then coming back and winning 'A' Worlds the past 2 years has been an awesome experience. Then also in 2008 we (GTL) lost our 1st game at the Dudley and came back and won the next 8 games.   We ended up going 8-2 and took 3rd.

Is slow pitch softball a sport or a game?
I think it’s a Sport – At the "upper level" you can't just take it for granted – you need to work at it.   There are too many good ball players out there that will pass you and take your spot if you don't put in your work throughout the week/off season.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
The bats will always be a question mark.   Until they can come up with a way to control the bats it will always be a question mark.   Until then hopefully no one gets killed out there.   Otherwise, control it by using a different ball.   Maybe use the Classic for the stadiums and come up with a different ball for the 300' fields.   It will somewhat take the WOW factor away for the fans, but safety really needs to out weigh that concern.   I think the Classic is still a good enough ball that if you hit it – it will go….

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
Dudley
