An interview with T's 13 infielder Brian Barnett

Evidently I can't take a clear picture of Barnett, lol.  Sorry

Who are you playing with in 2012?
T's 13 out of Omaha

Why do you like the game of softball?

I just love playing the game.  The softball field is a great place for me to escape the grind of a stressful week of work.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Gotta be Wegman, he's a machine.

What is your nickname in softball?
Barney

Where do you call home?
Davenport, Iowa…about 170 miles west of Chicago

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
I played baseball in College.  2 years at Muscatine Community College and 2 years at St. Ambrose University.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
Started playing during the summers while I was in college with some buddies just to stay busy during the week. Eventually started playing on weekends and getting picked up by better teams. I'd say my first real experience at the "Top" level was about 6-7 years ago when Rob Humphrey put together his TCP team. Played with them all the way up until parting ways before the 2011 season.

What position do you play?
I've played them all, but 2B and MI are probably where I'm most comfortable

What ounce bat, make and model do you use?
I usually swing a 27 oz.  Played a lot of ASA last year and I mostly used the Salvo.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Work out, play a little basketball for some cardio, and take BP a few times a week.  Pretty much the only thing you can do during a cold midwest winter.

What is your favorite sports team?
Chicago Cubs

What is your most memorable softball moment?
The 2nd place run TCP made back in the 2008 ASA Open down in Oklahoma
City is something I'll never forget. The improbability of that run is what I remember the most. We barely even had
enough guys to make the trip, let alone expect to have a shot to win the thing. I'll never forget Losson White's unbelievable
performance to earn the MVP on our 2nd place team that year. I've never seen a Pitcher impact the game with the
glove like he did that weekend! Obviously would've liked to have won it, but it was still an amazing run through
the loser's bracket to take it to the If game.

What is your favorite non-World tournament?
There are so many great tourneys out there, but if I had to choose it would come down to a couple Minnesota tourneys.  The Fireman's and the Corkys are both a lot of fun. Both tourneys get a ton of teams, the competition is great, and the environment is second to none.  A Saturday night game on the main field at the Fireman's gets as crowded down the lines as I've ever seen.
