USSSA Playing History

2015 Interview

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
2nd, 3rd, 1st, outfield if need be and my favorite is Catcher

Why do you like the game of softball?
The game of softball gives you the chance to fellowship with your brothers and sisters. Give you the chance to get away from your normal 9-5 and just compete in different locations.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
There are a lot of up and coming players both male and female but one of my teammates sticks out Sherwin Lockridge and another military brother, William Weakly. These two guys can straight out pick it. They both make a thrid baseman's job a lot easier and I have seen both of them make some hell of a play at SS.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
I have been called B Will, my homeboy Dennis "Big Dogg" Davison calls me either lil beast or the cookie monsta. I think he calls me that because I'm always eating some oreo cookies. My coach Ike Rivers calls me "bruh man" due to an inicdent that took place down at the majors this past year.

What is your height and weight?
6'2, 255

Where do you call home now and where are you originally from?
I live in Atlanta GA and from Liberty City, FL

What is your branch of service and are you active or retired?
Army, was active but now in the NG.

How many years did you serve?
7 years total thus far but now in the national guard.

What is your highest military softball achievement?
Winning the 2014 USSSA Varsity A Men's Military Worlds and also being on the all turney team.

Who do you consider to be the best military player of all time?
I could not honestly say who the best military player is but I heard that Dex Avery is the man. Never seen him play but I am about to in a couple of months.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
I played football, basketball, baseball and ran track in highschool.
Played football my freshman year at Auburn University. Played arena football for a few years.

Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
I am getting ready to attend Law School.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I was invited to play leauge ball with one of my co-workers. There is where I met Charlie "Mr. Mack" Burton who asked me to play on his rec team on the Black Softball Circuit. While playing on the circuit, I had the chance to meet my boy Dennis "Big Dogg" Davison. He is the one who instilled the work ethic into taking quality practice BP and defense. He introduced me to Big Tony and I was able to become a member of the Primetime Family. I learned alot from my Primetime Family. Big Dogg then introduced me to Ike Rivers aka Papa Smurff and Pony who allowed me to play military ball with the Semper Family.

What was your favorite sports related gift you have ever given or received?
The best gift I was given was the chance to play the game of softball and to be apart of some great families (Atlanta Phoenix, Primetime and Semper). Yea they were teams but we acted like families.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
Pitching, Defense and hitting. It seems like a lot more people in the upper level has the ability to do what they want to a ball whenever they feel like it.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
As far as comparing my game too….ask me that question again in a few years but who I try to emulate is a few people, Decon Earl "Squirel" Bryant overall skills, Darwin "Pony" Vinson passion, Jermaine "top flight" Flythe's motivation (it's hard to catch 30) and Dennis "Big Dogg" Davison's knowlege and approach to the game.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
It is quite a few people, Mr. Mack, Smooth, Big Dogg, Squirl, David Morrow, Big Tony, Ike, Pony, Tre, Donta, Lee Daniels, Lee Payne and Jason Magnum.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Pinky on the knob, three fingers overlap. 30 or 28 oz.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
I do crossfit 4-5 days a week and take bp as much as my pitcher is avalible.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Everything Miami since its the home team and as far as the heat i was a fan back when Alonzo M and Tim Hardaway was running the team but in football I also like the Ravens.

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
The only thing I do is to make sure I have a good "throne session" early in the morning. It's a bad feeling when you running and you get that feeling in ya stomach.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
the umpa lumpa song off Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. My kids love that movie.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
The BSC torney's and BSC Atlantic Coast Championship.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
The complex at Myrtle Beach, turf everything.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Any place with a good steak and good drinks.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
I'm not going to mention any names but someone was rounding first and got picked off by the sniper, he hit the dirt once, got up and got sniped again, hit the dirt twice did a combat roll, ran to 2nd, slid a few feet short and still was safe at 2nd.
