New Team —> AllOuts Brandon Hooks

Brandon Hooks

USSSA Playing History

Interview conducted on 10/1/2016

Who are you playing with in 2017?
AllOut

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
OF but CF is my best position.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
Offensively Greg Connell and Defensively Nic Santana.

Why do you like the game of softball?
I love the comradary with everyone and the competitiveness.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
I would have to say a close friend of mine, Mike Williams. He plays the game the way it should be played and his work ethic is better than most. He never settles and is always trying to improve. He is probably the fastest OF'er in the game and can play with the best of em. Hits it very well too

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Superman, I've always been a huge superman guy growing up.

What is your height and weight?
5'11" and 225lbs

Where do you call home?
Troy, AL

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
I play golf most of the time or just try and relax.

What do you do for a living?
Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Played baseball and basketball in both till I blew my knee out the first year of college.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I started out with Easton Flatliners in 2005 and I'm 2016 I was asked by Team Adiktiv to play.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
The umpires are better and more professional and also there isn't near as much complaining back and forth amongst teams or trying to start fights every weekend.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
I wouldn't say I really compare to anyone.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
In the 2016 Conference Qualifier,  I made a play in the gap to basically seal the game and put us in the Majors.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
No one person in general.  I take BP with 3 close friends (Allen Ponder, Mike Williams, Dontae Fraizer and Hunter Mann.) and we constantly push each other to better ourselves.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Just really work hard and never settle.  There will always be room for improvement: stay humble and never play the game for "ME" it's a team sport.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Was overlapping but now I went back to the baseball grip.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Stay in the gym and take as much BP as possible.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Duke Basketball!

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
None

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
I don't really have a specific song in mind.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
I haven't been playing long enough to criticize or make any suggestion about the Conference.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
I would have to say the Mullet! Unlimited HR's and hanging out with with your buddies,  can't get much better:

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
I like he all turf fields in Myrtle Beach and Colorado Springs.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
BWW's
